    Mediocre

    Assistant Consultant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsNumerous Overseas opportunities. Being a management graduate, I've visited worked in 3 Continents over the past 3 years in Tata. Lots of opportunities to explore but limited ones for growth.

ConsHuge Politics over promotions and ratings. Lot of intermediary bosses. This is mostly a "process" oriented company and not a "people" focused one.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease change the appraisal process. The Bell curve methodology is an age old methodology and it's not relevant to the new times.

Great company if you are from offshore.......

    Consultant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsIn India, I know it is a top company to work for. For Indian associates that get an opportunity to come to the US, you are treated well.

ConsIt is a two tier company. Local hires are treated as a lower caste than expats are. Benefits are not competitive - high contributions for medical, low vacation time. Etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementDecide who you want to be. An Indian company with offices all over the world, or a global company that embraces talent from all over.

Good employer, but difficult culture for a US employee

    Senior Engagement Manager (Current Employee)
    Edison, NJ

    ProsSalary and benefits are good.
Most employees are willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
    A lot of freedom
    Very little chance of layoffs

ConsFirst 6-9 months are very difficult for US employees. High attrition rate.
With the company being based in India, all applications, processes, communication, etc. are geared to India based employees.
Difficult to understand how to career opportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to focus on the US employees more. People are leaving within the first year because of the culture difference.

ProsIf you are in your 20's, live in India, and wish to travel for about 2 to 3 years, this is your place.

ConsIf NOT all of the above 'Pro' criteria, RUN AWAY, as fast as possible, if TCS calls you with an opportunity. Can speak only on IT services, they are, at best, a call center service provider.
I have been around the block a few times, with over a few decades of IT experience. TCS has no real structure of any substance, capable of any project management, much less new development.
TCS is a holding company, which uses the IT services for cash generation, by volume placement of bodies at minimum salary and cost, with no concept or concern to build long term client relationships, though they say they are 'global' in scope, and per client centric.
To prove a point, simply ask any one of their sales reps trying to get your company's business what their policy is on your company hiring one of their employees. No money for them, in their business model , to allow you to invest in their 'resources' to bring on board. They want you to keep their person on contract the maximum allowed time under H1 VISA sponsorship, before they are forced to either apply for Green card status, an extension of VISA, or raise the resource's salary per H1 VISA requirements. Their model is to ship the 'body' back to India, replace them, and have you eat the cost of retraining and bringing the resource up to speed.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop pretending to:
1- "Care" for employees. They are modern day indentured slaves. Having someone held to a muti thousand dollar bond they must pay if they try to quit, is not something a truly global, 'caring' company does. Call it what it is: Slavery. Period.
2- Call yourself a service provider. Give up the farce you are a 'global technology firm'. Anyone with one neuron in their head, need just do a little vetting, and ask for a list of you so-call 'global project' success' and a list of true references from truly objective C-level corporate executives, rather than former TCS employees who managed to position themselves in management positions of former clients, and now provide projects to TCS.

    Must DO:
3- Share your wealth with the people who earned it for you. Never have I seen a company so unwilling to even attempt to share fairly a portion of the wealth they make off an employee. $25 an hour for a developer who at worst should be paid $40? Shameful.

PS. I really, REALLY have to see if ANY of the TCS management, TRUE management from India, has the guts to say any of this is false, in a real response on this site. I can use a real, long, good laugh from reading what that might be.
