    Pros

As a new joinee G.E.T. fresh from an engineering college, you get to learn many things in such a big organization. We get accustomed to the processes & the constraints as well.

    Cons

With time, one would feel that there is reluctance in the senior management to accept new ideas. There are too many redundant processes that have to be followed. Plant life sometimes doesn't pose serious challenges.

    Advice to Management

Start thinking of newer & creative ideas to improve upon employee engagement.

    Pros

    Learning:
    1) Learn by imitating superiors.
    2) Numerous of meetings to put forth your Ideas.
    3) If wiling can work on trans-departmental assignments.
    Pay:
    1) Decent as per standard of living of the city.
    Career growth:
    1) Opportunities like FTSS and TAS.
    Work life balance:
    1) With a little of plus and minus, one would get plenty of family time.

    Cons

    Learning:
    1) No directed skill building approach. This results in very slow growth in one's market value.
    2) Meeting is agenda-less and it is unlikely that people be interested in your Ideas.
    3) People are highly result driven. This leads to a very short sighted skill building which further lead to slow career growth.
    4) Process of organisation are very primitive. This result in non-suitability with other key players in market. To put in other words, if one is looking for job change let's say after 5 years , top MNCs may not value one's work-ex.
    Pay:
    1) Below the industry average.
    Career growth:
    1) Though they offer opportunities like FTSS and TAS, it is unlikely one would bag the fruits without an MBA. One may also get a feeling that Diploma and B.tech doesn't carry much of significance to year on year basis growth without an MBA.
    Bottom line:
    1) If you like to banter around all day, easy life and slow career growth and secure one go for Tata Motors but if you are young, have a spark of ambition look for some better opportunity.

    Advice to Management

    1) Understand the difference between corporate strategy and operational strategy and try to build capabilities in terms of implementing those operation strategies.
    2) Train your people to understand the PACT (performance assessment and coaching tools), Atleast the difference among nature of strategic goal, tactical goal, individual goal and more importantly who should own the planning and estimation of goal and who should own the execution part.
    3) There is culture of non-ownership of performance of subordinates which leads to very reactive environment.
    4) I hate to say that but middle management especially Sr. manager, Div. manager and AGMs are not very qualified for the job, try to map skill the set. There is an old saying don't suggest the road that you are not sure leads to the destiny. To put in other words, map the experiences and see if they are suitable to direct the team.
    5) Try to build performance based culture. Time has gone when life would start at 60. People retire early these days and pursue some other interests. If an opportunity to grow in respect to performance is given, organisational culture will soon become proactive ,and soon leave swiping machine redundant and people more productive.
Last but not the least and it is very important one. Innovation is very important to growth of an industry. Try to add innovation in work culture by developing operational strategies otherwise every 5 years vision and values will be same, with no growth at hand.
