Good perspective learning experience for those interested in education policy.

Math Teacher (Current Employee)

I have been working at Teach for America full-time for more than a year

ProsEye-opening perspective on how inner-city education actually operates. Working with children is a blessing that is challenging but rewarding.

ConsVery challenging experience and some school administrators can have inconsistent expectations.

Challenging, fulfilling, intense culture

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Teach for America full-time for more than 5 years

ProsOutstanding professional development, have had some great managers, expectations are clear, results-driven staff, meaningful work, colleagues are smart and dedicated.

ConsWork/life balance can be challenging, often when settling into a new role. Culture (varies by team) is intense and sometimes a turn-off. Organization is growing and is having a structural identity crisis. Not sure the pay is competitive and raises have been small.

I served as a 2009 Corps Member in Connecticut

Corps Member (Former Employee)
Hartford, CT

I worked at Teach for America full-time for more than a year

ProsOne of the most difficult yet satisfying things I've ever done. TFA worked closely with me to ensure I was receiving the professional development and support I needed (especially in the first year) to lead my students to success.

ConsTeaching at a high-need inner-city school isn't a cakewalk - long hours, weekend work and many Friday nights spent collapsing in my bed as soon as I got home.

Amazing Company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Teach for America full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat people, great mission. You come to work every day knowing why you are there and getting to do work you are passionate about.

ConsYou are not compensated fairly for the hours and time you put in. It is challenging to get meaningful raises that reward the work and results you put in.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward people for the work they do. We love our mission, and our students and teachers, but we need to be recognized as people to. We shouldn't feel that wanting fair compensation is a sign of our "lack of commitment" to the movement. You invest in what you value...
