    Cons

Long hours. Lack of support (in most cases) Weekend/Weekday professional development obligations Lack of autonomy (in terms of school placement or reassignment)

    Pros

Flexible schedules People truly care about the work and changing education for students Diversity is a core value and increasingly a priority the organization is improving on both in staff and corps members The organization wants to improve and grow and the CEOs are fairly candid about that

    Cons

Salaries are low, not competitive and with little room for raises or growth within a position - salary is dictated mostly by your title and you must move up to increase it measurably The lower level roles that pay less are structured to do too much and not effective for the mission around teacher development

    Advice to Management

Restructure the roles that most closely influence the teachers in classrooms to be sustainable so that you build a base of experts in the craft of teaching for transformation that want to stay and benefit from staying in their roles for extended periods of time - this should include pay structures so that expert managers get paid as much as executives and have opportunities for mentorship, leadership, and development that meets their expert level.

    Pros

High Expectations for their employees and students. They truly believe in the potential of all students.

    Cons

For an organization that speaks to a collective mission, I have never seen an organization that is more individualistic in practice.

    Advice to Management

Continue to challenge yourself and your corps members to collaborate. Not just in sessions, but within their schools everyday. The full potential of the corps isn't being realized.

    Pros

There are some great people at Teach For America, and the benefits are very good. Salaries are pretty competitive, but depends on what your level is; e.g. associate, manager, etc.

    Cons

Sort of cult-ish and lacking in good decision making practices. A lot of the 'managers' are fresh out of college and don't have real work experience.
