I have been working at Teachers On Call full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I work in the WI district where I am able to work in 5 different school districts!! I have multiple job offers daily and can work any day of the year if I want, except for summers of course. However, that's the best part if I have other obligations I dont have to work, like a typical job.

    Cons

Summers off with no positions available

    Advice to Management

Would like it if you could look into providing summer opportunities for substitutes through districts you already serve.

I have been working at Teachers On Call full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, multiple opportunities everyday, they back up their subs, a lot of choices of districts

    Cons

At the mercy of cheap school districts

    Advice to Management

Some other subs aren't good & a face to face interview should be required to work.

I have been working at Teachers On Call full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Teachers On Call is a very fast paced environment, you are never bored. There is always room for new ideas. They have weekly staffing meetings. Company is growing very fast.

    Cons

Sometimes the fast pace can become stressful, but it depends on the time of day. As it's a growing company, there are a lot of recent hires.

    Advice to Management

Hire more employees to meet growing demands.

I have been working at Teachers On Call part-time

    Pros

Easy way to get substituting fast. TOC gets you in the classroom as often as you'd like to be.

    Cons

Sometimes I have difficulty hearing the description of the job opening in their automated calling system.

I have been working at Teachers On Call (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is very responsive to employee needs. It is well understood that the company does not exist if not for the substitute teachers and paraprofessionals. We are treated well and appreciated.

    Cons

The lack of on-going, daily work can be frustrating, from a life scheduling and financial perspective. The pay is low, considering what is required on the job.

    Advice to Management

Seek some type of pay increase on an annual basis. Especially, if not for any other reason, to attempt to retain those who have a choice in whether or not to stay employed at TOC, to stay.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

The organization contracted with some nice non-profit organizations. Weekly pay.

    Cons

The pay was terrible, there was no guarantee of hours or having work for weeks at a time and some of the clients were very unprofessional. If you are used to working in a professional environment, this isn't the position for you. Also, If you are a teacher, you may be asked to work as an "Assistant" and make less per hour.

  11. Not stable

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

it's a temp job. do good work and you will feel good when you leave a classroom.

    Cons

Not a stable form of employment. Jobs can cancel on you and you may not be able to pick up another one, especially in the summer. If you cancel a job, it goes on your record and you can be fired. No benefits- such as sick days or emergency leave. So if something happens after the time to cancel, don't expect TOC to not give a warning about it. Also, anyone can do the firing. And there is no protocol for when someone is fired. You can be fired after calling in once or 27 times. Doesn't matter and you as a sub will have no influence over the decision.

    Advice to Management

Get some protocols and have a concrete reason for firing someone.
