    Software Test Engineer

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Bellevue, WA

ProsThis will be completely honest and contain no misinformation.

The co-workers are all awesome people. Work is bearable because of all the co-workers. Everyone is friendly and cool. Everyday is always a different, interesting, and entertaining topic.

Also, everyone shares a mutual dissatisfaction for the company. Everyone "jokingly" discusses their dissatisfaction almost everyday.

ConsThis will be completely honest and contain no misinformation.

    - Company has no vision. There is no opportunity for advancement financially and personally. The company tries to make itself look like it is more/better than what it actually is. Even the title of "Software Test Engineer" is better than what it actually is. The "engineers" in the company don't do any "engineering" work. Promises made by the company are rarely kept, and if they are kept, they are fulfilled very late.

    - Starting salary is lower than the industry standard. The amount of time for a raise is ridiculously long compared every other industry as well. All the employees have bachelors degrees, yet the salary is humiliatingly low. Everyone is also expected to work long overtime hours with little to no incentive; because of this work-life balance becomes incredibly difficult for the lower level employees.

    - Upper level management is probably the worst I have ever experienced and heard of. One of the "managers" more than often will come in 1-2 hours than everyone else; just sit at his desk and watch shows or play games or just sleep and snore; rarely helps out his team with the work they have to do. Another team lead will always not try to do his own work and push it to other employees.. even those not on his team; he showed up late because he went golfing; he used a sick day to go car shopping and has the nerve to tell other lower level employees not to use their sick days when they are not sick. Another higher level employee will just come into work just to be present at his desk. This really de-motivates many of the employees.

    - The company seems to only hire male UW undergraduates. The engineers are all male; not a single female in the engineering teams. Also the local hires all tend to be from the UW.

    - When concerns and gripes are voiced to upper management via private conversations or company-wide surveys/polls, instead of remedying the problem, the upper management get mad for having too many complaints. There is no incentive/motivation to work hard in this company.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect your employees more; they are the ones who make you the money you use to have fun and buy expensive stuff. If you want to be a better company like you always say you want, then start following the actual succeeding companies in your area. Obviously, something has to be fixed.

If things don't change anytime soon, I can guarantee there will be a lot more employees leaving before the end of the year.
