    Pros

    uh, nice building
    free lunches
    decent work life balance
    good coworkers

    Cons

Complete lack of direction, no vision, no plan.

Horrendous reporting and they are unable to give quotas for sales people.
It is July 29th and they still don't have quotas in place for 2nd quarter.
How are you supposed to have motivated sales people when there are no clearly defined goals?

Sales tools are a joke, they recently forced us to move from an ordering system that worked to one that has LESS functionality, is harder to use, and was 3 steps backwards. All of this leads to massive inefficiencies which results in things taking too long and going wrong. We lose customers as a result.

Pricing is not competitive due to added overhead in our "costs"

Management has ZERO sense of urgency in getting things resolved for their sales reps on behalf of their customers.

People are frustrated and most are looking elsewhere for work and would NOT recommend Tech Depot to friends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put together a real plan, get data figured out (surprised you haven't been sued yet for the bonus practices), focus on enabling your sales people for success. Stop hiring ex Dell chronies for management positions.

There needs to be a vision of where the company wants to go with a clearly defined plan on how to get there.
You have GOOD people working there that genuinely try to do the right thing both for the business and the customers.

Give them a reason to want to be there.

    Pros

During the tech boom working for Tech Depot was a great way to make money. They could have hundreds of sales people and still not have territories feel cramped. Sales leads did a good job managing small (7-10) groups of sales reps. The company offers a lot of trainings on new products, throughout the year.

    Cons

Tech Depot University, their orientation program was a waste of time. You spend two weeks learning about the company when you should be learning about hardware. Opportunities to earn spiffs and extra bonuses were disappearing when I left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The sales force is way too big. They should cut it by half. They could save a bunch on salaries and then the remaining sales people can actually earn commission.

    I worked at Tech Depot

    Pros

Good entry level IT sales opportunity. Good place to start career.

    Cons

Bad business model. Tech Depot cannot compete on the same level within the DMR sales channel. It lacks a competitive product line and pricing model. Management does not have a strategic plan for success. Management does not value the relationship between the customer and the account manager. Account mangers are expendable. The compensation plan in place rewards mediocrity. Most successful, experienced account managers leave the company taking a large share of the business they generated with them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management needs to use the leverage of the parent company on pricing, product lines and resources. The compensation plan needs to be overhauled, focusing on retaining experienced, productive account managers.
