    Too Many Sales People

Account Manager (Former Employee) Toms River, NJ

ProsDuring the tech boom working for Tech Depot was a great way to make money. They could have hundreds of sales people and still not have territories feel cramped. Sales leads did a good job managing small (7-10) groups of sales reps. The company offers a lot of trainings on new products, throughout the year.

ConsTech Depot University, their orientation program was a waste of time. You spend two weeks learning about the company when you should be learning about hardware. Opportunities to earn spiffs and extra bonuses were disappearing when I left.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe sales force is way too big. They should cut it by half. They could save a bunch on salaries and then the remaining sales people can actually earn commission.

Good entry level IT sales opportunity.

Account Manager (Former Employee) Trumbull, CT

ProsGood entry level IT sales opportunity. Good place to start career.

ConsBad business model. Tech Depot cannot compete on the same level within the DMR sales channel. It lacks a competitive product line and pricing model. Management does not have a strategic plan for success. Management does not value the relationship between the customer and the account manager. Account mangers are expendable. The compensation plan in place rewards mediocrity. Most successful, experienced account managers leave the company taking a large share of the business they generated with them.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management needs to use the leverage of the parent company on pricing, product lines and resources. The compensation plan needs to be overhauled, focusing on retaining experienced, productive account managers.
