    Pros

Flexibility, really doing something that impacts others, and just an overall fun environment

Low pay and limited cutting edge technologies available to work with.

I worked at TechSkills full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots for fredom to train. lot of material to work with. Students are trying to get ahead jsut as much as I was.. Lots of smart people to ask questions. I was able to earn my MCSE, and that is why i started there in the first place as a student. Found a job 2 weeks later paying me 15K more a year in my new field.

    Cons

Not very many peole at the "location" Required e-mailing back and forth. Students are looking for answers not e-mails being relayed. Money spent on "location" and "fluff" but not on labs to get hands on training.

    Advice to Management

Cookies from the mid-west are not that important. And if one want's to his cookie right out of the fridge get over it.

I worked at TechSkills full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I received free access to classes and tests for certifications. The students were lovely people and I had very nice coworkers. I enjoyed the get-togethers that my coworkers would set up and how supportive they were.

    Cons

My boss refused to allow a raise until I told him I was quitting. He was also being incredibly unethical and dishonest when it came to student financing.

I worked at TechSkills part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As with most companies, the coworkers and immediate managment were very good.

    Cons

Again, as with most companies, upper managment was not in touch with those of us in the trenches. They would come to visit, but really didn't want to hear the truth.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your subordinanats and allow them to be honest in return.

    Pros

Customers and co-workers are generally pretty decent people. Work, responsibilities -- not overwhelming.

    Cons

Old-school style management. Not progressive or even up to date on current management trends. As a result, company is facing tough challenges. Morale is poor.

    Advice to Management

Park your egos and get back in touch.

  8. Company culture changed and ruined a good thing

    Pros

Pros would include doing very rewarding work, impacting and improving the lives of others, and working with some great people.

    Cons

Cons would be that there is underdeveloped leadership and personnel practices, lack of future focus and innovation, poor compensation packages, and manipulative company polotics.

    Advice to Management

Put half as much investment, care, respect, and thought into your employees as you do your students and you would have a much more successful and well-balanced organization.

Great place to work and wonderful for career advancements. Staff was very supportive, including management.

    Cons

I think it was a great place to work!

    Advice to Management

    Pros

decent pay when you succeed hard working people at branch level free technical courses (even though they may be dated)

    Cons

floundering company, senior/corporate management changes direction often, company will not invest in infrastructure, lack of corporate employee accountability, very poor attention to detail

    Advice to Management

demand accountability from corporate employyes (even the "C" level) as strongly as you do branch employees. pick a direction and stay with it

  11. Home office clueless

    Recommends

    Pros

People in the local offices were very good at their jobs and cared for the well being of their students.

    Cons

The folks in the home office seemed unaware of how a TechSkills office should be run, how to create revenue and whom to hire.

    Advice to Management

Get a new CEO... one who has understands the balance sheet, how to create income and can relate one-on-one with the folks in the field.
