Pros
Very good benefits
Good coworkers help offset
Cons
Pay is below (often significantly) industry standards.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring pay up to industry norms to lower turnover in the orginization.
Pros
Will hire any person with little or no IT experience.
A good place to pick up some IT experience, but not that much.
Cons
Management is more concerned with stats and SLA instead of providing quality service.
Pay rate is terrible, starting wage 10 dollars an hour.
Most IT Call Centers start out paying on the average 12 - 13 dollars an hour.
Hours are not flexible.
Will work years in the same position no matter how hard your work.
NO chance for advancement.
Will promoted the wrong people to positions they are not qualified for.
Training is very poor.
Resources provided that assist in performing your duties are horrible, and always a work in progress.
I have more cons, but the above is suffice.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your workers as assets and not puppets
Payrate should be more.
Provide better training and resources so employees can provide good quality service.
Stop worrying about STATS and SLA, and be more concern with providing good customer service.
Pros
They are a company that will give people without (work) experience a chance. If you can prove to the hiring manager and human resources that you are competent and able to learn and excel, they generally will give you a chance. Also, during the poor economic conditions, TechTeam is actually expanding still. They have acquired more projects recently, and have been hiring support technicians. Also, they have a fairly good benefit package, with BCBS PPO insurance, tuition reimbursement, berevement pay, paid time off, and other benefits.
Cons
TechTeam starts off with a fairly low pay rate for entry-level positions. Also, raises are not the greatest of all companies.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing just about everything the same as you have been. Raise the starting pay a bit.
Pros
This is a good place to get a start in the IT industry. No experience required here, which is truly a rarity in the current job market, especially in Michigan. TechTeam offers vacation after 90 days, which is very nice, and also offers tuition reimbursement (I think 2500/year).
Cons
Some people get stuck in the same job for several years here, but if you make yourself stick out from the crowd, it can get you noticed. Starting pay for support techs is about 10/hour, but for many people this is the best you may get for a while in this market. But the experience should pay off better than the current paycheck.
Advice to Senior Management
Not the greatest working environment. It would be nice to at least be able to see outside. Private offices block most of this view for the inside grunts. Please remove the vertical blinds!
Pros
TechTeam is a good stepping stone company. There are some opportunities throughout the company but after a while, you will want to take your experience and just move on. Pay scales are about average
Cons
The Southfield office is depressing. No one smiles and they rarely talk to each other. Techs look like robots on the phone. Senior management seems disconnected and arrogant. It's just not a fun place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
The best way to have employees think outside the box, is not to have them in a box to begin with!
Pros
greeat place to get a start- it beats fast food- but it's close
Cons
Hard work is ignore in favor of political motivations, middle manangement lacks training and guidance from upper management. management is borderline incompetent. Great place to get your start in the IT field. Bad place to stay.
Advice to Senior Management
more management education, more employee education, more employee centric as opposed to being soley customer driven while ignoring even basic employee needs and concerns. There is a high turnover rate for a reason. Management knows and ignores this in favor of meeting contractual SLA agreements at the expense of the employee.
As this company is in the process of offshoring the majority of core operations, this problem will move with it. Sweeping the problem under rug does not address poor management skils at all levels. This company needs better leadership
Pros
The only thing I give TechTeam credit for is Hiring a well rounded employees, best staff I ever worked with! A few managers stand out
Cons
It's like working at gun point. Twitch wrong and your fired! TechTeam doesn't motivate employees with incentive for doing your job correctly they hold you hostage with the fear that if you job is done incorrect there is a consequence and you maybe fired.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire managers that are able to do the jobs of those they manage.
Pros
The Benefits were great. That was about all.
Cons
For an I.T. standpoint 1 out of 30 people had an I.T. background. And everyone was the same. Now my self was a point of reference from everyone on my team but TechTeam did not want to move me up the lader. The exact words I heard from my bosses! We can't promote you because we can't loose you off the team. After getting a $.03/hr raise when I had a year in fought to get it higher. well Finley they gave me an extra $.47/hr. Still treated me like poop and by then I was a reference for everyone in the building.
Advice to Senior Management
Next time you get someone that does the Job better than everyone; do what it takes to keep them there. Don't treat them like trash. That is why half of your staff knows nothing about the systems they are supporting. Also stop the racism. Its like the white people get stepped on by the black employees and if we said anything it was because we were racist. The truth is the white employees tried hard not to offend anyone while the black employees just didn't care
