Pros
I graduated with a rather poor GPA in May 2009 when the economy was at it's worst and TechTeam took me in, so for that I am thankful. I work on a client site but have some of the best coworkers you could ask for. I never have had to work much overtime so the work/life balance is pretty good, though that may vary contract-to-contract.
Cons
Vacation policy blows big time. It's based on an accrual basis and you get 1.3 hours of sick and 3.67 hours of vacation every pay period. Basically it takes 3 months for you to get one day of sick leave and a month a half for one vacation day. The pay is well below average for my position (other people who graduated in my class make about 15K more a year then me in other companies).
Advice to Senior Management
Pay your employees more and overhaul the vacation policy. I'm probably on one of the better contracts so take a look at those and model others after it.
Pros
Company is global so there are options in several countries.
Relentless pursue of growth.
Cons
No career path - no value is given to employees when considering promotions.
Poor benefits package, and different treatment for different types of employees.
Lower than market salaries.
Information flow is terrible, little filters down from senior management and when it does, oftentimes it is changed later with no advance notice.
Pros
education, salary and holiday parties
Cons
management and their salaries are too high
Advice to Senior Management
holidays
Pros
Good compensation, 401k (3% matching), and education benefits (4k per year);
Standard leave policy: 10 holidays, 10 vacation days (15 after 5 years); 5 days sick leave per year.
Cons
No way to advance within company
Company based in Chantilly, VA - work in Texas; lack of connection with corporate
Advice to Senior Management
Grow the TTGSI Texas footprint
Pros
Very good benefits
Good coworkers help offset
Cons
Pay is below (often significantly) industry standards.
Advice to Senior Management
Bring pay up to industry norms to lower turnover in the orginization.
Pros
Will hire any person with little or no IT experience.
A good place to pick up some IT experience, but not that much.
Cons
Management is more concerned with stats and SLA instead of providing quality service.
Pay rate is terrible, starting wage 10 dollars an hour.
Most IT Call Centers start out paying on the average 12 - 13 dollars an hour.
Hours are not flexible.
Will work years in the same position no matter how hard your work.
NO chance for advancement.
Will promoted the wrong people to positions they are not qualified for.
Training is very poor.
Resources provided that assist in performing your duties are horrible, and always a work in progress.
I have more cons, but the above is suffice.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your workers as assets and not puppets
Payrate should be more.
Provide better training and resources so employees can provide good quality service.
Stop worrying about STATS and SLA, and be more concern with providing good customer service.
Pros
It is hard to find someone you don't like - everyone is very friendly and easy to get along with. Health benefits are fantastic. Very casual atmosphere.
Cons
very little pay... I make a few dollars above minimum wage; I make about as much as a telemarketer.
They force you to work shifts you can't, and force you to change jobs. They move you around like you're an item, not a human. I understand the need for flexable workers, but to completely change someone's shift hours and work days with 2 days notice is just not right.
Some support teams are treated differently than others. For example, some support teams have to ask for permission to use the restroom; which I find humiliating.
The work is mentally and emotionally exausting, you are switching gears minute after minute - there is no down time to focus on doing work. They hire just enough to meet minimum requirements; so if someone quits (which is frequent) or goes on vacation; you have to fill in completely. Things change frequently, and are often poorly communicated.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to Upper Managment is to realize what we do on a daily basis, and make it easier for us to do it. Trust me, it may not be the most cost effective at first, but the companies that hire you will be way more satisfied with your services; and recommend you to other companies.
Pros
They are a company that will give people without (work) experience a chance. If you can prove to the hiring manager and human resources that you are competent and able to learn and excel, they generally will give you a chance. Also, during the poor economic conditions, TechTeam is actually expanding still. They have acquired more projects recently, and have been hiring support technicians. Also, they have a fairly good benefit package, with BCBS PPO insurance, tuition reimbursement, berevement pay, paid time off, and other benefits.
Cons
TechTeam starts off with a fairly low pay rate for entry-level positions. Also, raises are not the greatest of all companies.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep doing just about everything the same as you have been. Raise the starting pay a bit.
Pros
TechTeam is a good stepping stone company. There are some opportunities throughout the company but after a while, you will want to take your experience and just move on. Pay scales are about average
Cons
The Southfield office is depressing. No one smiles and they rarely talk to each other. Techs look like robots on the phone. Senior management seems disconnected and arrogant. It's just not a fun place to work.
Advice to Senior Management
The best way to have employees think outside the box, is not to have them in a box to begin with!
Pros
This is a good place to get a start in the IT industry. No experience required here, which is truly a rarity in the current job market, especially in Michigan. TechTeam offers vacation after 90 days, which is very nice, and also offers tuition reimbursement (I think 2500/year).
Cons
Some people get stuck in the same job for several years here, but if you make yourself stick out from the crowd, it can get you noticed. Starting pay for support techs is about 10/hour, but for many people this is the best you may get for a while in this market. But the experience should pay off better than the current paycheck.
Advice to Senior Management
Not the greatest working environment. It would be nice to at least be able to see outside. Private offices block most of this view for the inside grunts. Please remove the vertical blinds!
