I have been working at Technology Business Research full-time for more than a year

    Pros

-Great place to start career in terms of experience, giving interns, RAs and analysts (all in their 20s) significant exposure to intensive writing, modeling, custom project work and communication with many executives in tech world
-For a small company, a very impressive client list that buy syndicated material / custom project work (by my count, a few dozen from the Fortune 500)
-Small company size also allows a lot of room to take tech research; upper management is extremely approachable about work ideas & willing to institute new project provided a vendor is willing to buy them
-Company tries best to align work with your work interests, although supply issues don't always make it feasible
-Current Director of Operations Josh Farina is one of the friendliest / most caring people I have ever had the pleasure to work with; while company gets crazed at time with work, he's the glue that holds company's sanity together as middle man between senior mgmt. and analysts et al
    -Overall, very friendly co-workers
-Notable perks: Lots of vacation time (15 days to start +1 additional every year worked); company takes off every holiday (even Columbus Day and Black Friday); Free tickets to Hampton Ballroom Casino; great dental plan w/ Guardian in place

    Cons

-Company has a take on work first, allocate time later mentality & periodically have to work late weeks as a result. The four practices are not created equally, and some (especially software) have a much harder time with work control
-Directions given and methodologies used for custom projects often feel jumbled / unsophisticated and too often feels like quality work is not being delivered
-Company is trying to better integrate between practices, but senior level sometimes snipe across practices; RAs use to work all in one room but over past year have been moved into practice halls & company has lost a lot of commradarie in this area
-Pay is not very competitive; No grad school pay if you are seeking that
-Lack of perks include: No 401k matching; most married people are on spouse's health plan due to high premiums; vacation time subject to syndicated work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Headhunt a few extremely talented people from top research companies (IDC, Gartner etc.) to help institute better practices for modeling / report / project quality. Emphasize project planning ahead of actually taking on projects.

I have been working at Technology Business Research full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

flexibility in hours, still small firm

    Cons

run like a family business, not much planning or reality based (regression analyses - nope) market and account based collaboration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

hire someone to run the firm for you.

I have been working at Technology Business Research as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Presented with many learning opportunities if self motivated.

    Cons

Interns given little guidance on reports, would have benefitted from working more closely with RA's to create better targeted deliverables.

I have been working at Technology Business Research

    Pros

Wicked smart workers but not a helpful, nurturing or empowering organization.

    Cons

Too many managers with personal agendas, biases and lacking in foresight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Protect your IP and wake up to an honest evaluation by employees. Too many chiefs...

I have been working at Technology Business Research full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A nice place if you want to end up being an IT analyst because TBR has good clients

    Cons

Though TBR spends on developing employee skills, most employees seem to lack motivation and the environment becomes negative very often. Some managers just like to control everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some senior managers need to share more information and improve communication with their teams before the teams start falling apart

I worked at Technology Business Research full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Convenient location in seacoast of NH, reasonable work hours

    Cons

The story told to the syndicated clients about the research methodology is not accurate - they give analysts too many companies to cover and not enough bandwidth to add value. They merely regurgitate the earnings call information. They don't talk to the firm they way they used to to add the additional insights.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

provide more constructive coaching and support

I have been working at Technology Business Research

    Pros

Technology Business Research is a great place to work because of its relaxed and accommodating culture, as well as the support provided by upper management.

    Cons

The business is small but growing which means some of the work related processes are less organized or structured as opposed to a more developed company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

From what I have observed management at Technology Business Research is moving the company in the right direction, as we just past the $10 million revenue mark this past year.

I have been working at Technology Business Research

    Pros

Regular recognition in the press and a fairy high level of national exposure

    Cons

The company was very cheap on things like travel budget and raises. But it was a small company that needed to be cost conscious.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to improve their role as mentors to the more junior analysts.

I have been working at Technology Business Research

    Pros

Open culture that encourages learning and asking questions, which is critical for any intern who's staring out, especially in the consulting industry which is difficult to crack to begin with. The people are very friendly and supportive.

    Cons

No major downsides - sometimes feels a bit disorganized due to new, urgent engagements - which is not necessarily a bad thing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although not many BU's at the company are suffering from the same affliction - the one that I worked under had trouble getting work organized and disseminated to the interns, which wasn't altogether that bad since this provided me opportunities to learn through trial by fire. I would encourage to go beyond Excel and seek opportunities of how to leverage current and new technology especially in the web domain on how to better analyze data and automate certain processes, which seem a bit archaic to me, at least the way they are currently done.

    Pros

    Cons

Competitive market, but TBR should do well in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
