Pros
Great pay and benefits in a fun fast paced environment. If you make it in the leadership development program you will be set.
Cons
Sudden layoffs are a possibility.
Pros
A good company to start your career with because its a HUGE company and you get a company vehicle with a gas card. They also offer excellent training program about their products. That's one benefit I can take away is that my knowledge of power tools has increased and I can do projects on my own.
Cons
In the entry level position you work in Home Depots "selling" to customers, but you are basically another Home Depot employee just working as a vendor because the majority of your day consists of downstocking, dusting and front facing product on the floor. The first few months are okay because you stay positive, but after the 6 month mark it is just a depressing job to be in. I completely forgot I went to college, got a degree, thought I would be a salesman, but am actually doing something anyone could do because I'm downstocking and dusting or doing resets in the stores. In doing this I feel like I lost some of my business concepts I went to college for in the first place. Plus if you like where you live don't plan on staying there because you MUST be willing to move for all of the promotions.
Pros
Its somewhat flexable and you primarly work alone. The pay is average at 40k but they expect a 60 hour week often and your required to work alot of saturdays. They will say just a few saturdays around christmas but thats untrue. You will most likely work at least half the saturdays in a given year.
Cons
Overall it was an aweful 2 years. I started a week after i graduated collage and began interviewing elsewhere after about 6 months. You can spin this job on a resume but anyone who knows the job also knows a monkey could do it. Really all you do is move things around in the home depot. Your esentially a stock boy. There is almost no true sales in this job. As close as you get is talking to a customed in an aisle and pusing him toward your product. But if he buys something else it does not matter at all. You bonus is a joke and basically at the discreation of you manager. There is no way to calculate what you deserve. You can go on and on but the job is aweful. Turnover is the proof, most of my friends that started with me left within 2 years.
Advice to Senior Management
let all the reps go and give their chores to the MET team
Pros
Techtronic Industries has different sites which operate differently.
Cons
try to avoid South Carolina.
Pros
good flexibility. great company car policy. some very good people in the company. some decent sales experience. good pay considering the nature of the work.
Cons
you're basically a home depot stock boy. at least 90% of your time is spent moving around boxes or resetting bays. the vast majority of the work requires very little real thought or problem solving skills. There are weeks when the amount of work they ask you to do is completely ridiculous and not possible to do in 40 hours. however other weeks you'll likely be able to get away with working less than 40.
Pros
Good truck policy, Personal cell phones, If you enjoy a challenge this right place for you. Great place to learn to overcome adversity. LDP program. If your out of college good place to start, but for a short time only.
Cons
A work day here is literally a full day, breaks and lunches are not part of the culture, unrealistic expectations, management has no respect for personal lives, very fast paced and extremely stressful. Manager in the area is a taskmaster, there has been many complaints about him and nothing has been done, I can go on and on, but you get the point.
Advice to Senior Management
Slow down, no need to continue to pile on the work, your employees can only do so much in a day. They are not robots listen to what they have to say, I believe upper management has no idea what it takes to accomplish the work.
Pros
Some incentives were there for increased sales which I did receive, plus a free 2010 Ford truck too use to drive to all Home Depots I had to travel to.
Cons
After not missing any time for 3 years I need a surgical procedure to help me walk normally ,they fired me with a ridiculous excuse before they had thet paper work from my surgeon..
Advice to Senior Management
stop teaching you college grad managers you train with no job excperience for 30 years like I have to lie and fabricate stories about their employees.
Pros
For the most part, you work alone, and are given monthly and weekly goals to perform, and it's up to you how you get them done, in what time period, and to report results back to management.
Cons
This position is always advertised as a "sales and marketing" position. Honestly though, many times you are simply worked ragged doing endless resets that require a lot of physical strength that will leave you drained mentally and physically at the end of the day. You mostly work in Home Depot retail stores, and there are many obstacles to overcome. The Job is mostly physical in that you're constantly bringing down product out of the overstock, signing product, putting things on display. They demand a huge amount of pictures of things that you have done, and you will spend more time emailing pictures in and bragging about what you did, than actually doing the things you're bragging about.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend more time with your employees, and quit hiring inexperienced college kids that know nothing about power tools and outdoor power other that bullet points. TTi is currently going through a process that in that senior management is weeding out the older knowledgeable people and replacing them with inexperienced people. It's not a money issue, it seems to be more that the younger people are easier to brainwash, and believe what you tell them. The older reps have been lied to and burned so many times, they tend to be the "show me" type, which doesn't go over well.
Pros
As a field sales representative for TTI you will gain experience that you can spin in to positive sales experience on your resume and could be in a great position to join another company. You will be given one on one and B2B sales training in the first year on the job, and will also be given thorough product knowledge training as well
Cons
There are not as many job promotions as they will promise you during the interview. Unless you are interested in continuing your career as a manager or further along the sales chain in the Industrial Channel (Milwaukee Powertools) you will not have opportunities for advancement. Visibility is limited to corporate management outside of certain geographic areas (Milwaukee, Atlanta, Carolinas) and as a result corporate marketing positions will usually go to representatives from those areas. You will be expected to work beyond 40 hrs a week regardless of personal situation, and will not be compensated in Overtime pay most of the time.
Advice to Senior Management
A more transparent review process would go a long way towards helping the sales force understand areas that truly need improved. Right now it seems as though performance reviews are just there to weed out the bad seeds and keep the rest of us complacent
Pros
-Career Development
-Benefits - (Gas, Car, Full Benefits, Blackberry)
-Compensation
Cons
-Very little employee face to face interaction, tons of emails via Blackberry
-Minimal Vacation days first year
Advice to Senior Management
Keep investing in the LDP Program and promote from within.
