Pros
Teds Camera Store offer a fantastic enviroment to work in ,each store has a group of employees who operate as team and have their own goals to achieve, also they offer a great range of fun products to sell. There are a range of extra $ incentives offered to sales staff over their basic wage. Many staff members have been at Ted's for over 20 Years and now have their siblings working at Ted's,so it truely is a family business. As Ted's open more stores interstate there are more opportunities opening up for management roles.
Cons
Being a Company owned business with Head Office management there are some constrants on individuality.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to store staff and act of feedback when given
Pros
Ted's offer several real benefits as an employer, most of all that they really allow for your individual approach towards selling, whilst still maintaining a high-level of training and consistency amongst the team, meaning that there is a very strong sense of self within the company. There is also excellent support when it comes to personal issues outside of work, again pertaining to respect for the individual. For example, many employess have quit for personal reasons and were welcomed back with open arms, with no negative implications regarding ones own choices in their life. As such there are many long time employees serving well over 25 years and up in every store.
Cons
The biggest downside is the lack of encouragement and motivation from superiors. As an employee I have on many occasions asked for more work with greater responsibility, and have been given a very cold response. On those occasions when I have just gone above and beyond my responsibilities there has been scarcely any feedback. There are many promises made about opportunities to excel and improve your career, yet there has been no proof of any such positive direction as of yet. Worst of all though is that management are irresponsible and DO NOT LISTEN to employees needs or recommendations when it comes to improvements to the operations of the company. If you have a suggestion as to how a process or method of operation can be improved, it will be ignored almost every time. This is not the company to work for if you wish to excel at what you do, let alone be recognised for it. Finally, the pay stinks... Almost all employees are at national minimum wage (as far as i'm aware).
Advice to Senior Management
Reflecting on the downsides of working for Ted's is that many of the problems stem from the fact that senior management have been in the company for a long time and are seemingly afraid of change or growth, because what has always worked should continue to do so... Times are changing and its about time to wake up! Listen to staff, they deal with the customers every single day, face to face... stats dont say everything. Consider that living up to promises means a lot to your employees, and that your regular lies are very clearly seen... You say the fingerprint scanner doesn't keep actual photos of the fingerprint? It does... read the website, read the manual... Just saying this to keep the employees quiet about their privacy concerns is an insult and a probable legal concern.
