Full of cliques and bad behaviour.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsStructured compensation package, very transparent. Some staff are very nice and professional. Several people are very skilled.

ConsLeadership is inconsistent. Direction/expectations depend 100% on the person to whom you report and it can change regularly. Many poeple were inappropriate or immature; managment tolerated this. Restructuring is common and change seems nonsensical. HR has no power and barely any influence. Opportunties are about who you are friends with not what your capabilities are. Individualism is not welcomed.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep an eye on your middle managment. Some of them are not upholding good values.

Teekay overhired and underpaid me. The job was not as described. Very disappointing.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsGood employee programs - health benefit, fresh fruit, good vacation and flexben, nice offices.
SOme great people and some very bright minds.

ConsExtremely competitive, plastic people. Tough enviornment. People lie and toss others under the bus to create their own advancement. "Stars" are people who fit the clique. Roles are poorly defined, feedback is withheld and reviews are set to be the same for everyone.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about fit and what you are really trying to hire and should be paying before you make the move. If you try to hire the "Best" regardless of real needs, you add to turnover.
Find out the real situation and get involved in what managers are doing. Do you know they are making the right decisions?

Great company to work for if you are starting at a management level, not many opportunities for non-management employees

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsVancouver location is great for anyone in HR, IT and Accounting fields

ConsThe company has restructured a few years ago, moving all operations and chartering functions to the regional offices. Therefore, not many opportunities for anyone pursuing a maritime career in Vancouver location.

    Advice to Senior ManagementMore self-awareness

    Lacking growth opportunities

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsExcellent employee benefits, good bonus and company pension plan. Fresh fruit weekly and office support staff are very helpful.

ConsInternal employees are not valued as much as externally recruited employees. No commitment to promotion from within. Lacking feedback and progression planning.

A lot of overtime is expected. Not much work/life balance.

Advice to Senior ManagementDepartmental heads to review internal employees' potential for growth and promotion within the company.

Used to be a great company, but poor management and CEO

Human Resources (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsGreat benefits, nice sincere people to work with

ConsTerrible communication within the company, the CEO does not know how to interact with his employees. Unfortunately CEO and management does not execute communication properly within the company. CEO does not have people skills and comes off as untrustworthy. Just check the employee surveys to confirm this.

Advice to Senior ManagementLosing great talent to the competition should be something to think about. What was once a world class company is now an average run of the mill organization.

A dynamic company to work for if your goals lie in Corporate Management & Strategy.

Offshore Employee (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsMultinational workforce & dynamic organisation due to the industry of the company. Many new avenues to further ones career in the shipping and offshore industry with the market leader.

ConsToo rigid as far as introduction of new comer´sto organisation goes. You are constantly watched. More like the management wants you to make an error rather than help you solve it.

    Advice to Senior ManagementLossen up.

Was the best company in the world, on its way down now..!!

    Merchant Navy Officer (Current Employee)

ProsContinous Salary, 3 Months Contract, Medical insurance, Priority pass these are some of the things that one would consider working for this company

ConsToo involved in cost cutting, employs onboard are not provided with good quality equipment, too slow promotions.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company is still one of the best in the world, keep your employees happy and content and work for better and faster promotions

    Such potential, but falls short

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Prosexcellent benefits
    Great people
    Safety is priority

ConsManagement turns a blind eye with anyone who has a 'manager' in their title. Quick to believe that 'manager' means they know what they are doing. Very large segregratin between management and employees and no merging of the two. They treat the office as a ship, everyone has a rank and gives the respect per that rank.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease take a look at who you have leading your units.

Solid company and management, but run like an investment fund rather than an operating company

Business Analyst (Former Employee) Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsOne of the most international companies based in Vancouver, BC, with a truly global presence. Smart and driven management, who also seem to care about the well-being of staff. Interesting industry and market leader position within that industry. Great reputation within the industry.

ConsInvestor-driven rather than customer driven. Investors are the target customers, and the company is increasingly run like an investment fund rather than an operating company. Very much a banking perspective on business - which makes sense since the company is run by a banker. This is negative, but only really if you would rather be in a strong customer-focused operating environment.

At / below market pay for Vancouver, but horribly under-paid on an international basis, which is where most of their competition is from. Limited upside for career progression - most younger employees have to leave for advancement, which is too bad since the rest of the company is solid.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider how financially-driven you are. It may make sense from an investor standpoint, but is it the right way to run what is still, in essence, an operating company with customers? Look at how you move younger employees through the organization, and how many you've lost along the way to international firms that actually provide competitive pay. Aside from that, keep it up.
