Pros
Verry challanging environment and great team works.
Cons
Not beeing in USA... Montreal office got closed.
Pros
If you're willing to develop your skills and career, the company will support you and offer opportunities to grow and earn a promotion.
Cons
Layoffs are always a downer, and morale is understandably lower these days.
Pros
Where Tekelec is a large, bureucratic company, if you're not very good at your job, you can hide pretty effectively and get by.
Cons
I originally worked at a small Dutch company bought by Tekelec. It was *immediately* apparent there would be a problematic culture clash and indeed, as the months went by, it was so. Tekelec are centralized and bureaucratic. Examples of this are the heavy use of metrics to measure performance (dumb metrics, too, like number of lines of code - the more, the better) and bizarre, complex, soul destroying HR performance assessments). There's also the strong use of extremely poor in-house software tools; for exaple, the Tekelec bug tracking software was an open wound on moral.
Fortunately, as a formerly separate company, we were at least partially shielded from the worst of it - but the cultural change, from being a happy small self-directed company to a demoralized cog in a dumb, bureaucratic machine, everyone I knew was looking for an out.
Tekelec management can't seem to pick a winning strategy and they're basically buying up small company after small company, looking for their next major product. We were just one in a stream - but I don't think this can work, because Tekelec culture crushes the small companies they purchase.
I don't think Tekelec pay very well, either. We were well paid, because we retained our original contracts, but the new staff were getting a good 20% less.
Advice to Senior Management
Give up on the centralized control. It doesn't work, it stifles creativity, productivity and moral. Fire everyone senior in HR; they have absolutely no idea about actual work and significantly contribute to demoralization.
Pros
Great operational management. Close knit team and excellent teamwork
Cons
small company so upward mobility limited
Advice to Senior Management
listen to the technical teams more :)
Pros
solid products generating cash flow
Cons
with private equity, the focus will be on cash flow and cost savings, vs innovation and people development...
Pros
Excellent employee base, as a rule, those who are not managers have an excellent work ethic and are working hard to make the company successful.
Cons
Ineptitude among Sr. Managers and higher prevents affective forward planning to prevent easily foreseeable negative outcomes from becoming the rule.
Advice to Senior Management
Update your Nortel resumes, The company has been sold and the ratio of managers to non managers can no longer be supported.
Pros
23 days of PTO/sick to start.
Cons
Sales oversells and management lacks.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't let sales dictate solutions.
Pros
1) Competative salary
2) Knowledgeable employees
3) Good intangble beneits
Cons
1) Long Hours - Includes weekend work
Pros
Relaxed work environment with a good work to life balance. Very nice building and lab facilities with good individual coffee makers and a decent cafeteria
Cons
no feeling of camaraderie between team members. No one ate lunch together so there was very little bonding. People were assigned to projects not based on their skill set but on their connections
Advice to Senior Management
Stop creating complicated products for single customers. do more work to encourage team building and increase employee satisfaction. Spend more time reviewing employees contributions and provide them with feedback
Pros
The company has a good bonus program when one is acheived. The pay and benefits are also very good - some of the best work available.
Cons
Lack vision in the management levels. Tekelec is turning to third party hardware solutions to become more of a software company. I fear the lack of hardware control and reduced hardware quality and reliability will be detrimental to the customer and to Tekelec in the long run.
