Good company with limited career growth

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros- Highly motivated and smart people to work with
    - Good company with good core values

Cons- Everything done last minute, no real scheduling
    - Too much of pleasing the customer and not thinking of its employees

Advice to Senior ManagementHave some backbone when it comes to dealing with the customer. Too many people afraid to say anything therefore non-management employees feel the brunt of the customers demands. Need to implement more training courses and management programs for those who want to go in that career path.

    Good for mid-to-junior software engineers

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Plano, TX

Pros- There is always work waiting for you to be done
    - Diverse technology spectrum allows for multidimensional learning

Cons- Prefer to hire than to promote from within
    - New ideas are often seen as a threat to the "good enough" of today
    - Contribution level and compensation advancements are very loosely related
    - Lack of centralized strategic technical leadership
    - Team room environment
    - Lack of any bootcamp for the newcomers

Advice to Senior Management- If "people are the biggest asset of the company", put the money where the mouth is
    - Stop the "indecision by committee" practices and form the true leadership

    Systems Engineer

Systems Engineer (Former Employee) Richardson, TX

ProsThis company was on the cutting edge of technology and I enjoyed working with familiar and unfamiliar technology. The location of the company was great, as it was situated in the telecom corridor in the Richardson Texas.

ConsThe position required extremely long business trips at times and the Managers didn't quite know when the business trips would end.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep employees informed of the decision made regarding the account early on during any implementation

    Long time employee

    Director (Current Employee) Plano, TX

ProsPlenty of opportunity to work on a variety of systems.

ConsOffice politics, lack of innovation, micromanagers, dictator-style leadership at most levels of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the engineers have freedom to innovate, and to fail. There is no leeway to try things more than 1 way, because schedules are the highest priority.

Practical experience in lean and applying Danaher Business System tools to software

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Plano, TX

ProsTektronix Communications is the market leader in their space. The work is technically challenging. As a Danaher company, the leaders encourage continual process improvement.

ConsThe aggressive business and customer demands often conflicted with the stated process or quality improvement goals.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to management would be to better balance the needs of the business, customer, and the organization by making timely business decisions so that Associates are motivated to excellence rather than discouraged.
