I have been working at Tektronix Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Cutting edge products, you will learn a lot here, positive culture, and flex-time (depending on department)

    Cons

Not a lot of opportunities for advancement, not enough effort or cash spent to develop employees

  2.

Misguided management driven by parent (Danaher) company

I worked at Tektronix Communications full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

For the most part, good working level employees.

    Cons

Management is obsessed with pleasing parent company's (Danaher) fanatical adherence to business process tools (DBS). I should have paid closer attention to the previous posts on glassdoor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hopefully the NetScout acquisition/merger will give some relief from the draconian DBS overlords.

I have been working at Tektronix Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Family like atmosphere. Fast paced, constantly evolving.

    Cons

Strategic initiatives that trickle down to the implementers constantly in flux. Danaher corporate overhead and processes forced upon the business unit are not good fit. Very short term bottom line focus due to Danaher culture. Will sacrifice long term strategic benefits for short term gains. Lots of cronyism. Many cases moving up depends on who you know versus what you know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to the people who actually know what they are talking about.

    Pros

The people I work with, not for, are the only thing that make the job bearable.

    Cons

No flexibility in schedule. Butts-in-seats mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Tektronix Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with and good benefits, 401k. Ok Training programs.

    Cons

Too much micromanaging due too upper management setting too many red tape policies.
HR is only for management not for the employee.
Upper management only cares about metrics and bean counting they stress employees out which causes low productivity. Other comments already mentioned upper management don't have a backbone to tough customers and take it out on hard working employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. They are the bread and butter of the business and without them you wouldn't have a company! HR needs to help and listen to the employees and stand up for them and not management. Cut your micromanagement. After all this a professional working environment and not high school. Keep employees happy not stressed.

I have been working at Tektronix Communications as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Highly motivated and smart people to work with
    - Good company with good core values

    Cons

    - Everything done last minute, no real scheduling
    - Too much of pleasing the customer and not thinking of its employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some backbone when it comes to dealing with the customer. Too many people afraid to say anything therefore non-management employees feel the brunt of the customers demands. Need to implement more training courses and management programs for those who want to go in that career path.
