    Company was in transition

    Onsite Technician (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsBenifits were ok. Work flexibility was great. Created one large database of all manuals.

ConsCompany was in transistion. Company could not get orgainzed. Didn't seem like many oportunites for advancement.

Advice to Senior ManagementPick one computer system. Make transfers to other labs as important as internal calibrations at that lab. Turn time is important.

    A great place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people are great. A very collaborative environment. The culture is inclusive and fair-minded.

ConsSome employees have a hard time with change, but it's understandable. It's a low-growth market, which can make it tough to get traction and grow.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep refining the strategy. Continue to look for ways to make the employee experience better everyday. Continue to foster the spirit of innovation.

Still a great company, but lacking growth opportunity for staff.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Beaverton, OR

ProsVery knowledgeable people who are great to work with.

ConsLittle to no staff development and growth opportunity. When Danaher took over, the basis -innovation in development of test & measurement technology - was reduced to driving incremental (technology) changes. Cutting cost is too dominant, leading to short-sighted decision making.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your people, foster their continued growth and don't lose sight of the fact that Tektronix became great, because it innovated.

    ProsGood pay and good environment.

ConsI worked as a contract, they hardly do direct hire.

Good place to work with a solid reputation in the industry.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsTektronix is a solid company with a very strong brand recognition in the test and measurement industry. Our customers trust that a Tektronix product will perform as specified and we stand behind it.

ConsAll companies have their share of issues, however none at Tektronix stand out worse than any other public company. My biggest negative would be the relentless pursuit to squeeze expenses to satisfy shareholders....that's status quo for any public company these days!

Advice to Senior ManagementExecute on the R&D investments so we can overtake the competitors. Don't try to keep the same platforms for more than 7 years because the competition will take market share.

Video Product Line, Video Network Monitoring (El Segundo, CA)

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    El Segundo, CA

ProsThe employees at the El Segundo office are very nice. On a personal level, they are great folks.

ConsI question the professionalism, particularly that of the local management. Corporate in Beaverton doesn't seem to know that this is a hostile work environment. Management has demoralized the teams, and it continues to get worse. They have lost three employees in three months. Both members of the Software QA team quit within two weeks of each other.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire a Project Manager. Hire a real Development Manager to oversee all the teams and implement standards SDLC practices. The quality of the product is diminishing and with current oversight at this office, this will continue. Your current manager is overwhelmed and being asked to do things that do not align with his strengths. Corporate is clueless as to how bad the situation is. Unless major changes are made, talent retention will be a greater and greater issue.

    Great engineers, poor direction

    Test Engineer (Former Employee)
    Portland, OR

ProsSmart people and very interesting problems. The physics of High frequency HW design is fascinating. Also, you will get to solve very complex Math problems with SW. Great experience with some great people.

ConsConstant demand from parent company to reduce expenses. Very little investment in R&D with a yearly layoff. They also happen to target the layoff for the most experienced/expensive engineers.
Good place to start but do not plan to stay for long.

    Senior Management is blindly obediant

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)
    Beaverton, OR

ProsExperienced, qualified employees, very nice campus, great technical staff

ConsEmployees who deliver results are not promoted. The culture promotes employees who blindly follow the president. No questioning of authority. Management spends a lot of time preparing a story vs counter-measuring performance. The stories prepared rarely get to root cause.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease be willing to get to true root cause and be willing to listen to other viewpoints.

It is just a place to work.

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Plano, TX

ProsThe co-workers are friendly. The managers are nice, and the salary is OK.

ConsLots of works are moving to China. Work in a team room with 8 co-workers, someone are hard to work with.

    Advice to Senior Managementno.

    Stop blaming the workers

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSmart coworkers, good pay, good benefits, a few Tektronix corporate values still remain

ConsPresident and team have a strategy that has failed over the 5 years he has been there. He continues to lay off the workers. It is not the fault of the workers that the president's strategy is failing.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a new president who can lead the company to success, and take responsibility for his own failures. He laid off many workers at the business that was growing the fastest and profitable. Then he said in the newspaper that he is cutting back on that business. With a strategy of "growing the business" why did he cut the fastest growing business?
