    Pros

There are still people who work at Tektronix and also understand the Test and Measurement markets.
Benefits are ho-hum, but not as bad as others.

    Cons

Tektronix had been sliding downhill before the Danaher acquisition, due to the actions of the greedy stuffed shirts in charge of the purse strings. After the acqutisition....well,...Danaher *is* an investment company after all, regardless of how they like to be perceived as a technology innovator. They won't put money into anything that doesn't guarantee a high return within 1-3 years.

Sweatshop-like work conditions. Cowardly upper level management who don't understand their own product and business. Yearly layoffs. Too many buzz-word concepts driving management such as "employees with lots of LOS are overpaid and inflexible, hire the new breed", and "it's always cheaper to outsource". Lots of free travel miles for upper-level management, rather than teleconferences, but anybody below 2nd level management is denied reasonable travel.

Previous CEO Amir destroyed all employee confidence with just four words "Just get over it".

    Advice to Management

Spin off Tektronix and let it lead the world in T&M again. You don't know what you're doing.

    Pros

Tektronix Communication is market leader in network monitoring space; Netscout acquired Tektronix, it will have 43% (tek 31% netscout 12%) market share at minimum. there is no significant competition in the future unless there is outsider to get in such space; network monitoring space is shrinking because telecom operators cut spending.

    Cons

    No career path or education program to develop employees;Extremely short term bottom line focus due to Danaher culture;Hold big data but nobody has idea how to process it to benefit to customer;lack of accountability;

    Advice to Management

invest in people to grow;Too many middle management; Too much processes done by managers who has no idea what they are talking about ;need to pay more attention to your employee; too many previous Nortel employee, they can destroy Nortel ,so the Tektronix .

    Pros

Lot of knowledgeable people that are always willing to share knowledge. Coworkers are hard working and loyal. They have learned to do the best with what is available. Benefits / compensation are comparable to other companies in the area.

    Cons

People are squeezed for all they have. They are overworked for more profit, while at the same time the budget is cut and staff are reduced. The remaining people are expected to take up the slack. Layoffs are a yearly event. A group that is targeted will have the budget cut and be forced to accommodate the new budget with reduced staff and / or resources. Managers actually have little to no choice in the matter.

    Advice to Management

Better training would help some. Invest more in R and D.

  6. Great benefits with a bigger company, but Danaher has forced bad decisions.

    Pros

Benefits very good. Salary was competitive with the local market. Chance to work with the newest and best test equipment.

    Cons

Too Kaizen focused forcing poor production decisions and delaying product. Management struggles to find new growth areas, but doesn't invest in them long enough to prosper. Not many growth opportunities within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Develp realistic milestones and allow enough time for areas to grow. Reduce Kaizen red tape and focus on the product.

    Pros

Diverse staff, you could actually see diverse sizes/shapes/ages/appearances on site. (Usually at hightech, you only see under 40yrs old, pretty-people, whites & asians, but with zero life experience, or any ability to design usable products for regular people. )
Product is nice and solid, built to last.
Hidden Secret: Gorgeous grounds, great place to jog around, nice cafeteria, easy access to electric mass-transit, fabulous parking.

    Cons

Lack of quality metrics on staff productivity, this would weed out of lot of waste & stagnators, and retain the talented. I saw people ridiculously gaming the current metrics system to look busy, run production costs up, while truly talented and productive were laid-off. Manager oversight non-existent, too busy flying around the world delivering powerpoints instead of video-chat, being horrific amateur process-engineering bullies/witchhunters, or recruiting & hobnobbing "cool-accents" people without skills.
    *Huge dark buildings.
*Workout Center only open to permanent employees (a teamwork killer), looked mostly empty most of the time. Should work harder to woo all others, all shapes/sizes, and make it unembarrassing to them.
*No process engineering led by pros in that field

    Advice to Management

Product was great, was made in USA, very durable. Don't know if it still is.
Find the right management to stay on task, boost team work, productivity and creativity.
Get real productivity metrics, get management who know how to avoid being played by fake data and system gamers.
Make training updates & TESTING mandatory, part of ranking & rating.
Neglected Assets: Company has a lot to grab the public imagination with, they have great history during the Atomic-era. MidCentury Modern/Mad Men is HOT right now. Hire the Management & Marketing staff who can relate to this.
