Inconsistent Hiring even though company is losing money

    Developer (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsGood hearted, hard working, nice colleagues.
    Lots free food.

ConsComplete lack of process. Empire building and continuous hiring by executives whose groups do not earn money for the company. Senior executives do nothing to end this- even developer can see. So much politicks by senior executives and other Senior execs don't know or too scared to do anything?

Advice to Senior ManagementWhy allowing groups that do not earn money for the company to grow? Don't be afraid to direct resources and hiring ONLY to groups that earn money or provide vital services for the company. Why you need a VP of HR and many people in HR when company is shrinking? When the company is losing money. why do Finance, facilities, consumer group and HR need so many employees?

Hard to work with outsourced teams

Engineering Manager (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsGood pay. Interesting technology. Co-workers are all very nice.

ConsToo much reliance on China teams - makes it hard to coordinate effort.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess outsourcing, or outsource a entire component, instead of half China - half US for every team.

    Poor Structure

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsThe company provided great benefits. They match up to 4% for 401K, They reimburse you for gym memberships, and serve food every Wednesday

ConsIt was hard working in a company where they did not listen to customer needs. Working on the front line, it made it hard to deal with customers when you had to constantly tell them that things were not being worked on.

Recent efforts to show they care about employees

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Sunnyvale, CA

ProsHR has really stepped up efforts to improve morale and build/communicate company culture. Training has been added, employees are encouraged to change jobs internally instead of leaving the company, various fruit & meals are frequently provided for all (not just engineers), weekly beer Fridays offer an opportunuty to submit annonymous questions to the CEO and Executive team, there is a new gym, etc.

ConsProduct planning and investment strategy is short term (only about a quarter out is typically committed) only what can be controlled. This creates a sense of focus and urgency, but nobody is taken seriously when they lift their head up and look down the road for a longer view. Roadmap discussions seem "theoretical". It is believed that long-term planning is futile because of the rapid change in technology. Agility and flexibility is valued higher

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a chance on committing to a long-term product roadmap and stick to it. It will create a sense of continuity and vision.
