I have been working at Telefónica full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great Work Culture
    - Great Cross funtional Teams Worldwide
    - Everybody is willing to help and support other teams in the resolution of any issue
    - Great benefits and salaries according to the market
    - Best company I've ever worked so far
    - Telefonica is being updating its portafolio, strategy and vision for the future of Telecom Business, which in my opinion is ahead of their competitors

    Cons

    - Needs to improve processes to speed up the time to attend customer needs
    - Company is affected at the moment due to the crisis in Spain and Europe which limits the budget for the rest of the Regions (I hope is solved in the 3 to 5 years term)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Actually is positive, the Leadership and Management (International and Global Services) are outstanding! Bus specially in the US. Senior Management Team is simply the best!

I have been working at Telefónica

    Pros

Global Corporation, strong financials and job security in working in the USA for foreign employees.

    Cons

Hierarchy, does not recognize that the USA needs USA executives and employees to run the operations and not expats. Serious leadership issues with executive team that has been left in place and with new team of managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage your operations in the USA with USA managers as you would in Brazil and Spain and you will do a much better job of building a winning team in the USA. Do a better job of communicating with the employees and not managing through fear tactics.

Enormous company and great opportunities but...

I worked at Telefónica full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It is a company with a massive footprint (geographically, technologically, etc). Probably any given company with presence in Spain has some sort of contact with Telefonica (gets its telecom services, sells products/services to Telefonica. etc). That offers a huge spectrum of opportunities being both client or provider of them. If you fall in the right unit there are always opportunities to move to some of the countries where the company has operations. Networking (and unfortunately politics) plays a big role in the day-to-day of the company and people use it in every way possible so you got to be in good standing with the key people who have good "hands" in the politics game. Usually if you do your job well people will look for you and you will be well considered, but always pay attention to what is said between the lines and, without stopping doing your job, play your cards well.

    Cons

If you do your job but totally disregard the politics of the unit you are in, then you will miss opportunities and, if you do your job well, people will try to use you. Only having a good manager can help you if you are good are your job and people come at you in a "I'll-go-to-this-guy-so-s/he-will-solve-my-problem" way. Not just do your job, pay attention to who you solve problems for or who you do job-related favors for and look for them when you need them. In my opinion salespeople fundamentally drive the units and nothing can be done about it. Even if you are in a Customer Service & Operations unit and it would be obvious that customer satisfaction would be the key, the sales rep will have the last word with the client even when the service is being put in operation and the deal closing is long passed. There are so many outsourcing companies selling services (and here I'm specifically talking about professional services) that if you are a contractor you are pretty much hanging by a thread stability-wise. You could be working in the same unit for 10 years, accruing all the knowledge and from one day to the next a Purchasing rep decides that they want a resource cheaper than what your firm charges for you and next day you are relocated to a different client and the unit has lost 10 years of knowledge. It is worth to mention that the knowledge bases in Telefonica are non-existent or not well managed so the day you leave after 10 years at the company your knowledge leaves with you. It dependes on many factors but you are working on a project and specially if you are contractor you will work long hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are exceptions but in my experience managers look after their careers. They are not amazing leaders, managers, coaches, etc so if you get a decent and understanding manager who doesn't care about your career path or personal life then you can count yourself lucky. Management, you got adviced!

I worked at Telefónica full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Multi National company. Too many oportunities in realocation. Good atmosphere and good people. Depending of the area the pressure is more or less. You can learn a lot and develop high skill level on your job role.

    Cons

Too many politics, few opportunity to be promoted. Poor career development.Even though it has presence in many countries, it does not operate as a multinational, but pretty much as local companies bundled together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the talents close. Valorize the people which know the company and the business. Work for your group more and less for your higher partners.

    Pros

Has good and positive ideas, is great to its staff and pushes for the best. Really nice to have the O2 rewards structure and be so forward thinking.

    Cons

In danger of being left behind by others with web and devices, seems to focus on the idea and be willing to push out unfinished products.
