    Pros

You already have other source of income and you would like to get medical benefits along with a decent pay.

    Cons

Lamers are left behind. The talent has already moved to other companies in the silicon valley.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The east coast boys have no clue what they are doing. Keep it up!

I have been working at Tellabs

    Pros

All I can say is that it is a pay check. They did give an additional two percent discretionary contribution towards the 401k. Engineers I worked with were great, but they were all fired in January 2012.

    Cons

All levels of management are completely incompetent. It is no surprise that Tellabs is using up their cash and going nowhere fast. If you work here, or if your company is acquired by Tellabs, start looking for a better job right away.
The 401k choices are really limited and poor.
    Avoid Tellabs at all costs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to bring in new management or there is no hope for this company.

    I worked at Tellabs

    Pros

Very fair work/life balance. Staff and mid-tier management are caring and supportive. Many opportunities to make an impact, as the company is struggling.

    Cons

Executive management lacks leadership and execution ability. 'Old boy' network promotes friends over performance and effort. Overall, the company can not last long on the path it has gone down.

Tellabs has new IT leadership that is arrogant and uninformed! Once they outsource the IT Dept. the company will fail.

I have been working at Tellabs

    Pros

Started out a great place to work. When the times were good and the money was rolling in it was OK. They allowed for training classes yearly and respected people. You could get promoted for doing great work.

    Cons

Promotions are for brown-nosers only now. People that started out as college interns and only been there 5 years are being turned into Directors! People in IT with many many years of loyal service are fleeing there because they plan on outsourcing the whole IT dept. However the VPs have not even gotten Board of Director approval on this outsourcing plan yet! If the Board rejects it and they keep IT in-house IT will be in trouble anyways at this point. People are RUNNING to look for new jobs in IT over there now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to outsource something that you know NOTHING about. Treat people with respect and communicate your plans with your employees.

I have been working at Tellabs

    Pros

Good Benefits, good culture. Some very good people work at Tellabs. I had hoped to work for this company for many years.

    Cons

I was laid off, Tellabs moved almost all manufacturing to contract houses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop middle management talent with character. The trend these days is to promote the worst characters, this is the most demoralizing thing you can do to your workfoce

    Pros

If you are a talented politician you can probablly go far without ever having to do any real work or be held accountable. Very understanding about work/life balence. The actual worker bees are very nice people.

    Cons

Politically based promotions, raises and business decisions.
    Extremely inefficent.
    Old Technology.

Awful watching people who have spent 20+ years working hard for the organization walked out the door.
