I have been working at Telmate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great tech. This company actually builds things from software to hardware. They use the lastest web technologies. - Good employees: My peers are really motivated and skilled. - The company is profitable and privately owned. In the bay area, it is really rare. - There are perks like lunches and others. - stable company and competitive wages.

    Cons

    - A bit disorganized at times. However, management is making progress in managing work. - no stock options.

    Advice to Management

NONE. It seems management is trying really hard to build the best they can.

I worked at Telmate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co workers, dedicated, hard working and fun. They are the only reason I gave the culture rating more than 1 star.

    Cons

Is a zero star even a possible rating? If so, Telmate deserves it! First off, ask about the retirement plan and benefits in detail prior to signing. They care more about saving a penny (not an exaggeration) than the healthy and vitality of their employees and their families. CEO spends more time vacationing than working, which holds up decisions and progress on projects. When he finally does come in the office he brags about his trips and then is pissed work isn't done even though several emails from several people have been sent asking for his decision before moving forward in the wrong direction. If the team takes initiative goes by what they think is best while they wait for his response, he's pissed he wasn't consulted before spending man hours on proceeding. Can't win. Teams can only be as great as their leaders.

    Advice to Management

You hired well, trust your employees to do the work you hired them to do. Be responsive when your team has asked multiple times how to proceed with a project.

I have been working at Telmate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employees are provided meals and snacks. If this is enough of a perk, hurray!

    Cons

Leadership is as sleazy as the way in which the company turns a profit.

    Advice to Management

Hold management to the same level of performance as the employees who do the actual work.

I worked at Telmate full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My colleagues were great people that worked hard towards their goals... Problem was there was never clear goals as they shifted week by week.

    Cons

The CEO is misguided and often away from the office and difficult to get a hold of. He would often come back bragging about his fun adventures and be pissed progress wasn't made on various projects even though his absence and lack of availability was the reason projects were behind.

    Advice to Management

Motivate your team with clear defined goals. It would be helpful if the decision maker was either in office or available via emails/calls to communicate what the next steps are.

Looks great on the outside, but needs to trust its leaders

    Pros

Great technology. Cool industry. Fantastic co-workers. Interesting challenges.

    Cons

The two founders/owners made themselves CEO and President, rather than what their skills truly lend them to be, Head of Engineering and Head of Sales respectively. They are good people, but not good executives or good at running a company. Decision making is bottle-necked as all decisions must go through them or the wife of one of the founders.

    Advice to Management

Hire thought leaders in various areas (e.g., engineering, marketing, finance) and then TRUST THEM to lead. Give them budgets and let them make their own decisions. Oversight is fine; but a complete lack of authority to run their departments is not the way to make your leaders (or your company) succeed.

    Pros

Fun place, good people, many opportunities to show up and do a great job. Values, good people, a good spirit. A great stage of a company to be at--thriving, growing, dynamic.

    Cons

You have to be on your game! This isn't really a "con", but this is a place where you are expected to really show up, and bring your A Game, to use another cliché.

I have been working at Telmate full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Self-managed teams, a Director that is professional and listens to your concerns and needs. The location is amazing, right in the center of the Financial District, China Town, near north beach and a few minutes from Union Square. Very smart people with great ideas and innovation. Great catered meals, snacks and break area.

    Cons

The biggest con right now are the growing pains and implementing enterprise solutions that are manageable instead of complete home grown solutions. Change is tough at any time in a company but totally expected and needed with massive growth! Documentation is pretty scarce but offers a challenge in correcting that issue.

    Advice to Management

With all the growth going on, some sort of guideline must be established to define the role of Product Owners in each group.
