I have been working at Telstra full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

used to be a good place to work with heaps to learn

    Cons

too many restructuring resulting in lost momentum in previously made strategic decisions that are still relevant.

middle management (mostly those in Melbourne) thinks the world is revolving around them and are not comfortable (and incapable of) managing staffs outside their own city.

they withheld information, have appalling time management skills - hardly on time (at least on average late by 10min) for meetings (including those they are supposed to host) and always go over time, keep moving meetings at the last minute or past the scheduled meeting time. conveniently exclude staffs outside their own city from important meetings and team events.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

none. too hard, they won't listen.

Former Employee - Customer Advisor in Sydney (Australia)

I worked at Telstra part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Friendly culture among lower employees
    Always kept busy by customers

    Cons

    Bonus hungry managers
Flexibility around shifts are non existent
New bonus scheme for employees are not competitive
    Increased favouritism
    Double standards

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your lower employees individually rather than collectively and managers are getting paid bonuses to 'motivate' employees where rather they're threatening staff to sell products at all costs or risk not having any shifts. Toxic culture by managers to gain bonuses for themselves.

Current Employee - Blended PSTN Consultant in Perth, Western Australia (Australia)

I have been working at Telstra full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

CBD location, hours good. Reasonable working environment.

    Cons

Too much emphasis on secondary matrix NPS, creating a very stressful working environment, also to much reliance on GEM as a coaching tool, very little one on one anymore with TL. Staff reclassified as blended PSTN consultants (formerly PSTN Testers) now paid below market benchmark. Building never designed to house people, poor ventilation high incidence of recurring sickness throughout the building. Poor building maintenance and cleaning hygiene very, very poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remove yourselves from your alternate reality and start to focus on your long suffering Australian Employees. Your tunnel vision for all things Off Shore is blinding you to the plight of your loyal Australian Employees and our disenchanted customers. CEO gets 8%+ PA workers get average 1.5%, who did the work?
