Company needs some actions but generally good learning

Systems Analyst (Current Employee)
Calgary, AB (Canada)

I have been working at Telvent full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLots of learning to take in. Complex system.
Mostly good people to work with.

ConsLack of documentation on release as well as development in general.
Bad with communications as what's going on with the company. Though there has been great effort to get this out but still at a very high level and vague.
No salary scale so really people with a few years experience might be getting paid the same as 1-year experience (but this might be happening over many companies out there).
Lower pay compared to other companies out there (or so we think).

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunication to your team with project updates and company vision/working towards.
Don't budget too tight and try to chase the margin. Please allow people to claim administrative time (such as filling out timesheet time, company communication sessions instead of scrambling to find a place to put in the hour). Management knows about the pain, yet have done nothing to fix this...

ProsRelaxed atmosphere, awesome managers (R&D)

ConsWork is stale, repetitive. Few options for advancement for non-engineers.

The less professional you are, the more you will grow here

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Sevilla (Spain)

I worked at Telvent full-time

ProsI really don´t know yet what is the benefit of working in this company, beside the salary which is very normal one in most of the cases

ConsAnother big company where you just have to be very good friend of your bosses, and smash your colleagues and people under... then,... you get success...

Advice to Senior ManagementI would really think what I have done wrong to become a manager in this company.

No work life balance, no streamlined process, everything has to be done on a "now" basis

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Telvent as a contractor

ProsSalary is comparable. New computers with big monitors.

ConsNo bonus. No process. No work-life balance. Everything has to be done on a "now" basis. It's a no brainer why more people leave this company than that get hired. This is specifically about Telvent at Austin (that used to be Caseta).

Advice to Senior ManagementGive proper bonus for hard workers. Have a plan for the entire year. Don't put your project deadlines over the holidays. Introduce some process instead of working on "get it done now" basis.

A decent company suffering a serious hangover

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Telvent

ProsTelvent is a good company. Admitedly their product is ageing but, the people in the trenches are working hard to keep it relevant. People are this company's greatest asset. People who are loyal regardles of the situation, who talk up the company, who work long hours knowing they will receive little or no recognition; this is what makes this company worth it.

ConsYears of bad management have left a seriously bad taste in the mouths of a lot of key employees. The company's reputation is suffering due to poor decisions and a complete lack of leadership. Foreign ownership and non-communicative, narrow minded management have led to a feeling of being disconnected and serious morale problems in all the offices.

Advice to Senior ManagementFind a leader, not a bureaucrat to really lead this company.

Good Stepping Stone or Career

Server Specialist (Current Employee)

I have been working at Telvent

ProsReasonable compensation and benefits.
Not too much micro-management.

ConsNot quite mature business processes.
Lack of incentives and bonuses.
Shortage of training.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate to employees. Deliver less fluff and more substance. Respect your employees and acknowledge and reward their achievements and value. Work to remove the perception that management is an exclusive club and are treated differently from those who actually do the work.
