I worked at Telvent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great learning place if you're able to learn at a very fast pace, with minimal assistance from seniors. Bleeding edge technology with fast paced projects. Opportunities to move up if you can get along with management.

    Cons

There are very few senior employees who can help, and the ones that are left are often hard to work with, and can be condescending at times. Often everyone is too busy putting out fires to help others by answering questions. Documentation is sparse, you must be able to reverse engineer code quickly to survive and complete your assignments.

    Advice to Management

Salaries way below market (I got a 40% raise when I left), look into employee retention otherwise there is no permanent base of knowledge, a dangerous situation.

  2. Too much politics, bad pay, long hours.

    Pros

Small company where you get exposed to variety of different roles and tasks.

    Cons

Pay is horrible. You can work long hours and all you get is a "thanks". High turnover ratio, all the good employee leaves and they don't try to keep them. Have to play the politics game to move up.

    Advice to Management

Lots of work to make things better if possible.

Narrow mindness, internas methodology, low salaries

    Advice to Management

Emplomes satisfacción has to be in the centre of managers focus

I worked at Telvent full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fast acceleration from new role to lead role Steep learning curve if given time to learn enables employees in future careers Great company for helping you develop fast acting and decision making technical skills Amazing customer relations and cooperation

    Cons

Little focus on people so retention and succession are lacking No consults with groups or departments before change Inter-department cooperation needs development Weighty process and policy is time consuming and not efficient No strong direction from upper management on acceptable or unacceptable behaviour

    Advice to Management

Trying to fix issues by shifting management or shuffling departments is not the solution. Proper analysis of issues, a plan for fixing them and a front line consult process to address technical and customer satisfaction issues would be far more effective. Top-down no longer works.

  7. Mixed bag for junior employees in customer service group

I have been working at Telvent full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Lots of opportunities to learn (if you're lucky enough) - Great chance to network with clients and industry - Generally relaxed work environment

    Cons

    - Little effort devoted to onboarding - Among other juniors I've worked with there doesn't seem to be consistent amounts of opportunity to learn and grow irrespective of drive and ability, really it comes down to how busy your group is. - Having all hour being directly billable to customer is stressful for those still finding their feet. - Seems too niche. Everyone that I know \ heard of who has left goes on to work somewhere else in Oil & Gas IT sector. Probably the nature of Calgary.

    Advice to Management

Good job on centralizing new hire intake to one group. Hopefully that makes for a more consistent experience.

I worked at Telvent full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It is a good place to gain experience as a first job and to learn what a job should never be

    Cons

Long hours, bad paid, encourage unhealthy competition between colleagues, do not respect employees, do not care to give employees any training and make really difficult for you to train by your self (do not let you to attend to exams, do not make easy for you to go to classes, even though there are out of your working hours)

    Advice to Management

Worry a little bit more about workers, they are people

  9. Company needs some actions but generally good learning

I have been working at Telvent full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of learning to take in. Complex system. Mostly good people to work with.

    Cons

Lack of documentation on release as well as development in general. Bad with communications as what's going on with the company. Though there has been great effort to get this out but still at a very high level and vague. No salary scale so really people with a few years experience might be getting paid the same as 1-year experience (but this might be happening over many companies out there). Lower pay compared to other companies out there (or so we think).

    Advice to Management

Communication to your team with project updates and company vision/working towards. Don't budget too tight and try to chase the margin. Please allow people to claim administrative time (such as filling out timesheet time, company communication sessions instead of scrambling to find a place to put in the hour). Management knows about the pain, yet have done nothing to fix this...

    Pros

    Relaxed atmosphere, awesome managers (R&D)

    Cons

Work is stale, repetitive. Few options for advancement for non-engineers.

    Advice to Management

Localize communications roles (mostly sourced in Europe).

    I worked at Telvent full-time

    Pros

I really don´t know yet what is the benefit of working in this company, beside the salary which is very normal one in most of the cases

    Cons

Another big company where you just have to be very good friend of your bosses, and smash your colleagues and people under... then,... you get success...

    Advice to Management

I would really think what I have done wrong to become a manager in this company.
