Enpowerment but with little recognition for success and little tolerance for mistakes.

    Pros

Small company that gives people freedom to take on as much responsibility as they are willing to take on. They really believe the customer is important and put a great deal of time and energy in treating the customers well. Everyone in the company is rated on how they treat customers.

    Cons

Everyone is stretched - small company, growing fast, under staffed. To keep up you have to work long hours and weekends, making work/life balance a real issue. Combine with no benefits, and you have a difficult environment for anyone with a family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to treat your employees as well as you treat your customers. There is very little margin for mistakes - if you make a mistake the president expects you to take comments on your mistake in front of the entire company. Makes it not good place to try to stretch and try new things.

    Pros

Ownership of work and the ability to do your job without constant managerial oversight. This a great job for single individuals who like to work over 56 hours a week. Small company size allows you to get to know your fellow co-workers.

    Cons

When there is managerial oversight, you are put in front of the entire company instead of being addressed privately. Nepotism is valued more than ability, subject matter experts, or experience. Being treated like contract employees breeds no sense of loyalty. Lack of benefits makes this a terrible place for people with families to work. Expense reimbursements are not made in a timely manner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should treat your employees like you treat your customers. Without either one, you won't succeed. You should value employees who are truly dedicated to their work and want the company to succeed rather than employees who are good at "brown nosing" and passing other people's work as their own.

    Pros

They really believe the customer is important and put a great deal of time and energy in treating the customers well. Its a great feeling you have the power to do what is "right" to make it right with the customer.

    Cons

Everyone is stretched - small company, under staffed. Responsibilities increase but compensation does not follow. Work/life balance a real issue as there is no off time everyone is expected to be at the call of a customer no matter if its after hours or if its the weekend and your not scheduled to work if a customer calls you should drop any personal commitments or obligations and help the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to treat your employees as well as you treat your customers.
