I have been working at Tenneco

    Pros

Tenneco is a growing company who has great growth and even in a bad company keeps growing. The benifts are good with retirement and a 401k match which most companies have done away with they continue to match. Good chances to advance and if you come to work every day they treat you well.

    Cons

Some times long hours with no notice to make plans is a downfall for working with tenneco. Sometimes it is not to be avoided as the customers tend to be difficult to deal with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work with the communication with the employees. It goes a long way. You treat them with respect and they will work had and do the right things to keep the company successful.

    I worked at Tenneco

    Pros

You can build your own career path. They also give you the freedom and flexibility to create your own projects you think will add value to the company. You also feel very close with your other co workers - and I always looked forward to going to work. I enjoyed my time there, and would reccomend working there to anyone.

    Cons

They don't pay that well, but there are perks such as company cars, cell phones, and other perks. Also, job security is an issue right now with the downsizing of Automotive. The location of the HQ of Europe is in Brussels which is not a very good city in my opinion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the senior managers are very old school....they don't want to change the way they operate even when it's necessary.

I worked at Tenneco as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Worked on a particular team with large amount of support from all members. Learned more than I thought possible in the 3 month internship, housing was compensated, and worked with a great group of interns.

    Cons

Not very much structure or initial training for interns. It was a learn as you go experience which was difficult to start but in the end really made a positive difference.

I worked at Tenneco full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities to learn and work in different departments. Fast paced environment so you don't get bored. Good support and training from Line Coordinators and Team Leaders. Great pay and benefits package.

    Cons

10 hour days constantly, 12 hour days often and 8 or 10 hour days on Saturdays and sundays ( no family life ) A lot of stress to make shipping requirements. HR inconsistent with making and enforcing company policies. Direct family and community members are treated differently than individuals who are not part of the community or not a part of a family group who has years of service with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat everyone the same regardless of how they became employed. Enforce your policies equally for all employees and don't single out individuals for different treatments of discipline. Say What You Mean And Mean What You Say. Get more involved with the individual employee, listen to their concerns or questions and make them feel like they are a actual part of the company instead of just some number. Be open and honest with everyone equally at all times not just when it suits some purpose.
