I have been working at Tennessee Tech University full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Everyone in here are helpful and understanding. The atmosphere is very good. Perfect place to study. There is nothing to disturb you. It is very good place to work.

    Cons

It's a small city. So you have to depend on other big city like NashVille, KnoxVille. Sometimes the atmosphere is unpredictable.

    Pros

Very flexible schedule that is family friendly (depending on your dept). Generous sick and annual leave. Low stress and great people

    Cons

Since all the budgets come from TBR it is sometimes hard to get money. Low stress means that no one else is in a hurry.

I have been working at Tennessee Tech University as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

My experience as a graduate assistant at Tennessee Tech was one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did they pay for my tuition, but the relationships that I built with the professors that I worked with was invaluable.

    Cons

I do wish that the monthly stipend would have been comparable to other departments.

    Pros

    --great students
    --great colleagues
    --great campus
    --great Cookeville community
--the academic freedoms and creative opportunities for faculty remain a strength

    Cons

--I would've given a much more sympathetic ranking before the recent change in upper administration
--New senior administration has resulted in a hiring & firing spree
    --Custodial staff recently outsourced
    --too many adjunct faculty

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

--Listen more to faculty & staff

I worked at Tennessee Tech University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They are generous, and understanding. I believe it is very rewarding working of students in college. The campus is beautiful and makes me smile each day when I step out of my vehicle.

    Cons

It rains all the time. But as long as you are prepared you can handle it! Also it all depends what department you work in, I worked in one office i quit the week after we got a new supervisor because he was a jerk, but moved to a different office and loved everyone!

Work in your own little world and never hear from senior staff

I worked at Tennessee Tech University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great college atmosphere. Good people working there. Budgets are all over the place and it's always hard to know if you'll ever have the money to do something needed.

    Cons

Extremely below market pay for administration and support staff. Most senior staff are shut off from the world. Everyone works in their own little silo. A lot of self-described lazy faculty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a real compensation study. Senior staff communicate with people actually doing the work. Make tenured faculty actually do research.
