TN Tech is a place you can really feel at home.

Student Worker (Former Employee)
Cookeville, TN

I worked at Tennessee Tech University part-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey are generous, and understanding. I believe it is very rewarding working of students in college. The campus is beautiful and makes me smile each day when I step out of my vehicle.

ConsIt rains all the time. But as long as you are prepared you can handle it! Also it all depends what department you work in, I worked in one office i quit the week after we got a new supervisor because he was a jerk, but moved to a different office and loved everyone!

Work in your own little world and never hear from senior staff

Director (Former Employee)
Cookeville, TN

I worked at Tennessee Tech University full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat college atmosphere. Good people working there. Budgets are all over the place and it's always hard to know if you'll ever have the money to do something needed.

ConsExtremely below market pay for administration and support staff. Most senior staff are shut off from the world. Everyone works in their own little silo. A lot of self-described lazy faculty.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a real compensation study. Senior staff communicate with people actually doing the work. Make tenured faculty actually do research.

This was a good place to work as an introduction into the job world.

Helpdesk (Former Employee)
Cookeville, TN

I worked at Tennessee Tech University as a contractor for more than a year

ProsMy boss was genuinely interested in how his workers were doing. The hours were just the right amount of time for a full-time student to not be too overwhelmed. Once your schedule was set at the beginning of the semester, you did not have to worry about it changing from week to week unless you were covering for someone.

ConsIt was unpredictable which hours you would be scheduled with at the beginning of the semesters because your hours depended heavily upon the hours chosen by other workers.

Limited growth, moving towards outsourcing custodial services

Custodial Lead Worker (Current Employee)

I have been working at Tennessee Tech University

ProsGreat peers, Good benefits, Easy job

ConsLimited advancement, low pay, poor senior management decisions

Advice to Senior ManagementDo your job. Ideas should not come from the bottom only. Planning and direction come from the top. Outsourcing was due to some poor workers and the lack of senior management to correct those issues.
