Think long and hard before you work here - rebranding to Cloud-swell.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chattanooga, TN

ProsChattanooga is a great town. The pay was OK since they are forced to bring in out of towners who don't know better yet.

ConsStrangest place I have ever worked. A culture built up of keeping your mouth shut and your head down, since things change so quickly you stay with a constant level of stress wondering what the hell is going on and what will I get yelled at for today that I had NO inkling about. LITERALLY had direction change between the time you received it and the time you got back upstairs to your desk. A VERY small handful of competent folks pick up the slack for a large group of very mediocre talent. Meetings are run very haphazardly, rarely are agenda's or meeting notes distributed, and many times so many ppl will be invited nothing will get done and no action items are assigned resulting in hours of much wasted time.

Executive level management lacks vision and strategy with enough thought for lower level people to attempt to execute. When presented with scenarios that will be encountered in their ultra high level "strategy" you will get yelled at and dismissed summarily for trying to quantify and qualify said "strategy", not sure why there is a culture like this, other than Sr. Mgt will not push back against executive mgt in their monthly "Ops Review" meetings, and the two people in the Executive Mgt really do not have a technology background, but think they do.

The place has very few real external customers, it only stays afloat because its primarily funded by the pay day loan empire, which a great deal of the structure and organization is designed around making it seem like all the "collaborative" companies are independent, but in fact are all one. In a normal industry these "collaboratives" would be depts within the same company, but in trying to mitigate regulatory and tax liability it's setup like nothing you ever seen elsewhere - makes for very difficult circumstances - the "collaborative" will want solutions around which T9/Cloudswell has NO expertise whatsoever, yet be expected to provide them and support them. This obviously doesn't work very well.

They are upfront about the uber-Christian environment. Can't say you weren't told, but it's still embarrassing when you have visitors and they see the creationism non-sense. I'm not sure justifying your preying on low income American's with pay day loans by giving way a small percentage to foreign christian charities will pay your karma debt, but it's a private company and the owner can spend his money any way he wants.

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing I or anyone says will change this.

    Thank God It's over!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLots of nice people working there
    free coffee and tea
    decent salary

ConsWhere to begin.. It's supposed to be a Christian company, but they are in the payday loan business.. Doesn't seem too Christian to me.. Managment is a joke.. They have no idea what they are doing.. Too many chiefs and not enough indians. They have no real processes in place so people are usually running around like chickens with their heads cut off trying to figure anything out.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would fire almost all the management that is there now and just start over with some competent people that won't drink the kool aid.

    A bizarre experience

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsAs others have said there are some fantastic people here still, even with the high turnover. Willing to pay ridiculous amounts of money to retain the employees that are left.

ConsWhere to begin. Management is clearly the problem as others have stated. Along with the great people are some of the most obnoxious, deceitful and spiteful people you will ever meet. Some are managers, some are coworkers. If you come here for the money, be prepared for these folks to play dirty and throw you under the bus.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire every C level down, vp of anything. Hire some consultants to hire technology focused executives and start over. You've got the cash and the technology. Your management is the failure. I'm sure that.will happen

You can quit, but you can never leave

    Employee (Current Employee)
    Chattanooga, TN

ProsSome fantastic co-workers. You will be challenged and have technical arguements that will sharpen you. Some of the best technology in this part of the country.

ConsUnfortunately, none of the fantastic people are in management. We all wonder if they went on retreat and thought, "how can we be more evil?" Part of the answer is making employees sign ridiculous "company protection agreements" that basically keep any of us from getting a job if we were to leave. They have stabalized the workforce through fear of lawsuits.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop being evil. Treat your employees how you'd like to be treated. Apply some of your Christian charity to your own people instead of beating them up. Rebrand yourself already and provide some actual leadership and direction instead of creating fear.

Stay far, far away from this place.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros1. Due to the nature of what the company does there is some of the latest and greatest technology on the market.
    2. Free popcorn on Fridays!
    3. Spacious parking lot, but it is gravel so forget about keeping your vehicle clean :(
    4. Close to downtown so there are a lot of awesome restaurants and bars, heck there is a liquor store next door. You will need it working here.

    ConsWhere do I start...
    1. Senior management just doesn't get it, there has been almost 100% turnover and they still do the same old things. They lie to your face, they don't think twice about backstabbing, they offer no direction and leadership, they do nothing but collect a hefty pay check.
    2. The benefits are pathetic, you are better off finding insurance elsewhere.
    3. The salaries and raises are very unfair and center around favoritism.
    4. This place doesn't care about your personal life, you are expected to have your phone by your side every second of the day, forget to answer it once and you be reprimanded. Prepare to work insanely long hours with no compensation or bonus.
    5. This is the only company that you are congratulated when you turn your notice in.
    6. Morale is non-existent.
7.Everyone is constantly monitored and management wants to control every aspect of your life.

Trust me I can write a lot more, but for the sake of sanity the above are the major points.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease just leave so that perhaps someone qualified can take over and turn this place around.

Made good contacts, but it's not the place they claim it to be

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chattanooga, TN

Pros1. It used to have lots of great people - good for networking - but many have since left.
    2. The owner claims to support a fairly decent cause.
    3. Salary is best in the area - if you've been hired since the last management change.

ConsThe short story is that the management is completely incompetent. They have consistently been unable to provide direction; they do nothing meaningful to promote retention or raise morale; and titles are of no consequence.

Benefits are pretty bad overall, morale is extremely low, and people who have been there 2 years+ probably haven't seen a raise during that time. Many of them are long overdue. The company instead burns them out and pays twice as much to relocate people and provide salaries to them. It's an interesting concept. And like everyone else has said, communication doesn't exist. At least meaningful communication doesn't exist.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company is on the wrong track and it is clearly a management issue. The best thing to do right now is listen to the suggestions being given from the people that still work at this place. There have been a number of things pointed out that could be fixed that continue to be broken. It may also help if you can see your own faults and stop pushing all of the blame on employees - specifically, ex-employees that can no longer defend themselves. It's childish and ridiculous.

Very depressing with incredibly low morale

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Chattanooga, TN

ProsThere are a few good people still here that are worth meeting and connecting with.
Due to the incredible loss of employees you can ask for any amount of money and they will pay it.

ConsManagement refuses to accept that they continually make bad choices and let good people go. Everyone who has left has said to the highest echelons of leadership that they need to remove certain bad leaders which at this point has spread to most leadership positions. The only person in leadership that has been here longer than a year is the President. If you move here and accept the relocation bonus, because apparently we are unable to hire locally due to the bad timesfreepress articles, it is just not worth it. You regret the decision within a month by two you are finding ways to pay it back. Things have gotten so bad rumor has it we are contracting with technical companies to do the jobs we can't do since we have lost most of the staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake the time to accept that we are all looking and or waiting for other jobs. In the meantime perhaps stay back and let us do what work we can, all you are doing now is continually making things worse. Moving departments around just puts us under other bad leaders that cause confusion in who we report to and how we are to do our jobs.

    ProsGreat Technology
    Amazing budget funded by pay-day-loans
Intense troubleshooting when loans can't be made

    Consis funded by payday loans
    leadership does not communicate
politics over communication is an unspoken value

    It had potential

    (Current Employee)

ProsKnowledgeable technical staff that likes to teach
    Access to good technology
    Immaculate data centers
    Friendly co-workers
    Free coffee
Exposure to technology that is more high tech than most in the region and for the size

ConsHorrible communication, especially from senior management down
Out right and open dishonesty from some in management positions
Not enough staffing in technologist positions (because turn over is too high)
Management likes to take credit and shift blame

Advice to Senior ManagementStop shifting seats on a sinking ship and thinking that it will make it stay afloat

There is over 30% turnover, at least acknowledge that there is a problem.

Communicate, not talk, communicate. There is a difference. Talking is just making noise. Communication is doing it with actual thought and intent.

Reign in the people that need to be reigned in...people should be able to disagree with someone that has the word "Director" in their title without being shouted down in a room full of their peers.

Listen to your employees. Listening does not mean that you have to agree or make a change, but it does convey that you at least care

    Saddening

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Chattanooga, TN

ProsWhile I was at Terenine, I had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing Professionals I have ever met. None of them were in upper management positions, except for two. Both of whom have been removed from those positions.

ConsWhen talking to engineers at other companies (not Terenine) I've been told that they're wary of anyone who works there/has worked there. This type of reputation is not encouraging.

Advice to Senior ManagementI recently read a post by a former Terenine employee. I honestly don't know if he was referring to Terenine or another company, but the statement seems to apply: "The problem is not with the rank and file, but with leaderships ability to lead."
