    I worked at Terenine

    Pros

You will make some great connections, and work with some very intelligent people.

    Cons

Without saying anything negative about the company, I will share my experience...make your own determination. I got a great performance review and was "laid off" citing "workforce reduction" and my job was reposted the next day. Additionally, This is an ultra-religious company, people will breakout in prayer during meetings...which could be very uncomfortable if you're not a Christian. They will also tell you that the company has been in business for 7 years, that is quite misleading. The parent company Credit Payment Services , an online payday loans company, has been in business for 7-8 yrs. T9 was the IT department and it was spun off in 2010. When I left profits were extremely low because they don't really have many customers that they charge. Usually, they owner will give a company money to pay for their services...quite a different business model.

I hope that this review will be of assistance to someone that is considering employment with this company.

    I worked at Terenine

    Pros

While I was at Terenine, I had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing Professionals I have ever met. None of them were in upper management positions, except for two. Both of whom have been removed from those positions.

    Cons

When talking to engineers at other companies (not Terenine) I've been told that they're wary of anyone who works there/has worked there. This type of reputation is not encouraging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recently read a post by a former Terenine employee. I honestly don't know if he was referring to Terenine or another company, but the statement seems to apply: "The problem is not with the rank and file, but with leaderships ability to lead."

    I worked at Terenine

    Pros

Great collegial staff, faith based organization. Decent technology, modest benefits, plenty of free parking, interesting business model. Flexible working hours, casual dress.

    Cons

Struggling to gain market share in a niche marketplace, some members of management at director level are inexperienced. Significant attrition at senior technologist levels.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on selling what you can deliver, not a pie in the sky solution. Invest in training your remaining staff.

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

Knowledgeable technical staff that likes to teach
    Access to good technology
    Immaculate data centers
    Friendly co-workers
    Free coffee
Exposure to technology that is more high tech than most in the region and for the size

    Cons

Horrible communication, especially from senior management down
Out right and open dishonesty from some in management positions
Not enough staffing in technologist positions (because turn over is too high)
Management likes to take credit and shift blame

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop shifting seats on a sinking ship and thinking that it will make it stay afloat

There is over 30% turnover, at least acknowledge that there is a problem.

Communicate, not talk, communicate. There is a difference. Talking is just making noise. Communication is doing it with actual thought and intent.

Reign in the people that need to be reigned in...people should be able to disagree with someone that has the word "Director" in their title without being shouted down in a room full of their peers.

Listen to your employees. Listening does not mean that you have to agree or make a change, but it does convey that you at least care

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

    good place to make contacts

    Cons

    POOR management
    no knowledge sharing
basis of company income VERY questionable
    overworked
    no time off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

start making employees your number 1 priority. the turnover rate has to be close to 75% in the last year. it is not tied to one specific person or thing, but a series of poor management decisions. the company is on the borderline of implosion and you guys walk around like there is no problem at all. your lack of focus on employees shows.

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

Don't let the other posts fool you. Terenine has been reorginizing to meet growth demands and quite frankly some of the staff had to go because of performance issues or just did not have the skills necessary to meet the changes that are occuring. It is a great work environment with a bright future as a company and for individuals that work there. Five years of experience with the company.

    Cons

Don't expect to just ride the wave and have a 9-5 job.....growth demands are high and expectations are high. If you want to be on cruise control it won't work...expect to be challenged and held accountable

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Contiue to add the necessry staff to meet growth demands...it appears that is happening, but don't let up.

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

Chattanooga is a beautiful and low cost place to live.
Terenine has potential to be a major player in the market.
There are some talented people working here.

    Cons

Information is not shared among the company, the rumor mill is how everything gets communicated.
Management doesn't have a handle on anything and sends mixed messages throughout the organization and their own teams.
Management believes that vision statements and loosely defined goals are the answer instead of getting their hands dirty and makings things work.
Favoritism is a serious problem within the organization for both hiring and promotions. Make a buddy in management, kiss enough (you know what) and you will go far, until someone better comes along then they will get the glory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a moment to listen to your employees. They are your most valuable resource and not children to be talked down too. Don't lash out when people criticize, but look in the mirror and fix the problem. Not everyone responds to being threatened.

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

There are a few good people still here that are worth meeting and connecting with.
Due to the incredible loss of employees you can ask for any amount of money and they will pay it.

    Cons

Management refuses to accept that they continually make bad choices and let good people go. Everyone who has left has said to the highest echelons of leadership that they need to remove certain bad leaders which at this point has spread to most leadership positions. The only person in leadership that has been here longer than a year is the President. If you move here and accept the relocation bonus, because apparently we are unable to hire locally due to the bad timesfreepress articles, it is just not worth it. You regret the decision within a month by two you are finding ways to pay it back. Things have gotten so bad rumor has it we are contracting with technical companies to do the jobs we can't do since we have lost most of the staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to accept that we are all looking and or waiting for other jobs. In the meantime perhaps stay back and let us do what work we can, all you are doing now is continually making things worse. Moving departments around just puts us under other bad leaders that cause confusion in who we report to and how we are to do our jobs.

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

    1. It used to have lots of great people - good for networking - but many have since left.
    2. The owner claims to support a fairly decent cause.
    3. Salary is best in the area - if you've been hired since the last management change.

    Cons

The short story is that the management is completely incompetent. They have consistently been unable to provide direction; they do nothing meaningful to promote retention or raise morale; and titles are of no consequence.

Benefits are pretty bad overall, morale is extremely low, and people who have been there 2 years+ probably haven't seen a raise during that time. Many of them are long overdue. The company instead burns them out and pays twice as much to relocate people and provide salaries to them. It's an interesting concept. And like everyone else has said, communication doesn't exist. At least meaningful communication doesn't exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is on the wrong track and it is clearly a management issue. The best thing to do right now is listen to the suggestions being given from the people that still work at this place. There have been a number of things pointed out that could be fixed that continue to be broken. It may also help if you can see your own faults and stop pushing all of the blame on employees - specifically, ex-employees that can no longer defend themselves. It's childish and ridiculous.
