Pros
Products are great. Location is great. People on the assembly line are great. Most managers are great with the exception of a few. Engineers are easey to work with.
Cons
Pay stinks, most advanced positions pay entry level at best. Management has got to be the most incompetent group of folks in business. Managers who run multiple plants into the ground get promoted. Those who perform stay put those who don’t perform get promoted. Merit is simply just not recognized.
Advice to Senior Management
Try learning something and have some accomplishment before you take on a management role. They you would have something to work from. Also, promote from within and recognize those who do and those who waist air. Fire the ones who never produce especially managers. Dead weight pulls everyone down.
Pros
Lots of management guidance on strategy, etchics, distribution management, regional managment. Freedom to deliver results. Work at own pace so long that the results came in.
Cons
Commission structure was somewhat disjointed or non-existent. Too much emphasis on paperwork at times which meant not as much time could be focused on sales.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop new products more quickly. Place less emphsis on large dealers as sometimes the smaller independents can deliver more results.
Pros
A wide and interesting range of products.
Interesting to work on the different products.
Good workmates.
Motivated workmates.
Cons
Some key functions have been poorly treated, and have seemed to take brunt of redundancies. There areas will prove difficult to replace.
Some products need to be renewed- this is key to meeting customer requirements.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your products. Don't just follow your competitors.
Invest in your workforce. You had some highly skilled team members, which you have allowed to leave the company. This will be difficult to fix.
Pros
Nice people
Making strides toward lean
Cons
Transfers from Redmond, WA seem to have preferential treatment
During RIFs, dismissed valuable people that should have been keep - office politics is strong
Not very much room for growth
Bad work condition for floor employees (excessive heat)
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that people are your most valuable assets
Stop moving the outcasts from Genie to management positions in Rock Hill
Promote fairly
Pros
The people are the best assest and there is never a dull day! The culture is inviting and it's family oriented with lots of history. Great opportunities for engineers interested in participating in an organization focused on Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen. The benefits are great and always improving.
Cons
Communication from leadership and having people in the appropriate leadership positions. The economy hit Terex hard and resulted in RIFs. It will be a difficult challenge to recover from, but many former employeesv are jumping at the opportunity to come back.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop your teams and spend the time to give solid value added reviews. Encourage people to grow and give them projects to work on to advance their skills.
Pros
Excellent team of people, highly enthusiastic, good leadership, average pay and great location and premisses
Cons
Confusing matrix organization, chaotic customer strategy, politics influence daily work
Advice to Senior Management
Empower the local leadership if you want the company to grow in Developing Markets. Strategies developed and managed from Westport will never be successful
Pros
very loyal to employees. Good overall benefits package.
Cons
industry is up and down. location is a out of the way.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote more from within
Pros
Fast paced and let you do what u need to do. When times are good, money is not an option...spend all you can.
Cons
Lack of communication and it is a good old boys club at the top. You have to be PC to get promoted, otherwise you are left out
Advice to Senior Management
Move senior management in your various business units which will make them diversified and break favoritism.
Pros
A vast assortment of products
Global in scope and sales
Always looking for the next new acquisition
Pay and benefits equal or superior to others in same industry
Cons
Poor product distribution
Disjointed management style from division to division
Business units constantly being added or deleted
No clear path for upward mobility
Advice to Senior Management
No clearly defined long term goals or strategy
Lack of inter-company communication between divisions
No clear focus on the customer
Pros
salary is good. As somebody mentioned before great product. Management is very open. There arent many surprises. Great kanban system.
Cons
Nothing challenging. They should learn to differentiate between job profiles of techs and engineers. I am getting paid darn good money for what i do ( and i feel ashamed about it!) They certainly can use smarter junior management (supervisors).
Frequent lay-offs are very bad for moral point.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should focus on organic growth now. They had amazing run on acquisitions, but whole thing came biting them in downturn. They should invest money in current business to make it more competitive rather than acquiring new companies.
