I worked at Terra Community College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Faculty and staff are a pleasure to work with. They really care about the students they are working with.

    Cons

Change comes often and without notice, but its bearable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice shared governance (decision-making). Often times the decisions made at the top are made without consulting those of the ground charged with implementing the decisions.

  2.

Very little concern for the students and more on budgets and job status.

I worked at Terra Community College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with students and being a part of watching someone excel or even assisting them with their future and educational goals.

    Cons

Elimination of many positions and good staff caused many employees to betray each other in fear of losing their jobs. Departments do not work together to make student experience the main concern. Very poor communication with departments. Receive no training for positions and many are hired with no experience and have to train themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Policy's and Procedures need to be written and followed. Departments need to communicate better to help with the overall balance of making the students the number one priority.

I have been working at Terra Community College full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people and lots of love for students--faculty and most administration really care about students and will go above and beyond for them. They spend a lot of extra time if students need someone to reach out to them.

    Cons

poor long-term planning, management works through fear and threat--lots of whippings, last-minute decisions driven by emotion and snap judgement instead of careful thought, limited visions for the college

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop using fear and threats to try to motivate people. Walk around and talk in a friendly way to your people, especially faculty and see what is happening on the ground--but for the president, this may be too late. Realize that you don't know half the work your people are doing for you and respect what is getting done day-to-day. Take a long-term approach to your course programming and use workforce data to make 5 to 10 year range predictions.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
