Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsCompany underwent massive management shakeup and new management team is excellent. Company now has strong leadership with new CEO. Great product, very good pay and benefits. Great team environment since shakeup.

ConsOne product company. Product will come to an end in 5 years. Company is working on new project but too soon to see if things will grow.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to respect your Associates and thanks for turning things around.

ProsOpportunity to work with smart and passionate colleagues.
Product line is innovative.
Part of large corporation.
Depending on department, opportunity for growth.

ConsDisengagement of executive management led to decline.
Low morale.
Inconsistent approach to team management. Some employees were given additional perks and flexibility without accountability.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company is winding down so there is little that management can do. Retain new management team to protect current jobs.

ProsGrowing company with a family feeling. Great benefits. Great product.

ConsManagement spends too much time congratulating themselves and needs to spend more time making sure thier reports have the resources and information needed to get the job done.

Advice to Senior ManagementDelegate and trust your employees or they will not be able to get the job done for you; nor will they have the motivation to do so.

This place lacks competent leadership from mid level management all the way to senior level management

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Terumo Heart, Inc

ProsPretty family oriented you can pretty much come and go as you please, depending on manager, as long as you get your work done. Taking time off is not a problem. The people for the most part are very helpful and friendly. Very interesting product LVAD. The tuition reimbursement is not to bad 10k a year but you have to ask for the additional $ they will try and low ball you at 8K.

ConsHuh where to start ?

a lot of the mid level management do not carry the technical background to run engineering departments , i.e. chemist and biologist managing mechanical engineering principal driven departments. Mid level management lacks any testicular fortitude to make a simple decision.

The upper level management has so much infighting to see who has the biggest DI$% they actually encourage departments not to work with one another. Upper level management attempts to keep issues with the product in the field a secret from engineering staff and then expects amazing fixes with product issues after providing only limited information (purposely) so one department looks worst than the other.

This is a traditional Japanese company, i.e. not Toyota or Honda, the product design all takes place in Japan so getting a design change to occur even if it will correct re occurring issues with the product is not possible no matter how correct it is. If you press the issues about changing designs to product you will be fired !!! that is no lie or exaggeration ! The pride is down right ignorance, and arrogance.

This is a place that does not want a thinker just a doer, i.e. The nail that sticks out get hammered. Personnel are not fired for performance in this company it is 90% personal reasons that people are let go here.

There is absolutely no professional development set forth for personnel you can go to some training courses but if some one in upper management does not want you to go even if it is directly related to your job you are not going.

Getting day to day activities done can become a daunting task to say the least simple document changes can take 3 weeks to 3 months to get completely signed off on. This can largely be attributed to the incompetence of management, see 1st paragraph.

To make matters worst there is excessive management they even have personnel who are carrying manager titles that do not have a single person reporting to them.

If you are good at B.S. ing and playing the butt kiss game this is the place for you, a good place to get some good technical background on a very technical product in the medical device community though how technical your understanding becomes is totally up to you. A stepping stone company at best !

Advice to Senior ManagementBack up your engineering staff and for goodness sakes grow a sack !! i mean this is down right comical the reasons for second and third and fourth opinions is down right insulting.

Maybe the word empowerment and trust give a little

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
