A little too late on the changes

Pencil Pusher (Current Employee)
San Jose, CA

I have been working at Tessera full-time for more than 8 years

ProsSome great people to work with
Constant changes

ConsNot so great people to work with
No vision

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some real managers that really know what they're doing and what they want to do. They hire a lot of top level managers that know someone but don't know what they're doing.
I've seen all the C levels swapped out throughout the years with ones that say a lot without doing a lot. Everyone is in it for themselves which is a shame. There are some people down below with great talent but no leadership from above.

A great group of people with a confused leadership

Senior Engineer (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA

I worked at Tessera full-time

ProsGreat interdisciplinary interaction, lots of knowledgable and helpful people, a sense of the importance of research and development, ubiquitous open door policy, small enough that you can really get to meet everyone.

ConsVision is not properly communicated at all levels of the organization leading to some silos, rotating door of higher management provides for less-than-stellar stability.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on creating a vision and mission that you can properly communicate to the company at large, and then execute truthfully.

Senior Manager (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA

I worked at Tessera full-time for more than a year

ProsCool technology, when they get to it. Donut and bagel days.

ConsPro male environment. Whichever women they promote is just facade. Everything is wrapped up in legal, hard to get anything done.

Engineer

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Tessera

ProsTessera places a relatively high value on employees as stakeholders. Reasonably good cash flow and relaxed working environment improves ability to perform well.

ConsChanges are in economic climate and lack of high probability of success business plan will make for a rocky situation in the coming few years.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on clear value added ROI to encourage best talent to stay and motivate others to come.

Good Pay/Benefits, Terrible Management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Charlotte, NC

I worked at Tessera

ProsThey pay well, and the benefits are better than average for NC. They have a number of talented engineers and the technicians are friendly, capable, and hard-working.

ConsThe management lacks the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to innovate. They continue to rely on sales of decade-old products and outdated processes. There is no opportunity for growth or advancement. Young engineers are generally relegated to technician duties before being laid-off or finding other work. The experienced engineers are not allowed to disagree with the senior leadership, so nothing ever changes. Decisions are often made before data is available, and are seldom revisited when the data is there.

Interesting

Marketing Manager (Former Employee)
San Jose, CA

I worked at Tessera

ProsSmart engineers, great technology. Fair pay. Good benefits - medical, dental & vision. Like the company picnics, pie days, Halloween parties ect.

ConsSr. management lacks direction. 3 CEOs in 5 years - 'nuf said. The company has too many lawyers - makes it very difficult to do get any type of business and marketing.

Advice to Senior ManagementFigure out your business model. Are you an IP company that will just license your patented technology or do you actually want to make product and sell it?
Who are Invensas and DigitalOptics? Need to do some public education.
