I worked at Tetra Tech full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is so big and certain offices tend to get neglected. The people within the office are great, but there are issues with intra-office coordination.

    Cons

The people within the office are great, but there are issues with intra-office coordination. The pay is does not set it apart from any other company of its size. Although budgets are critically important. management tends to spends more time tracking the money rather than tracking the companies technical performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A significant improvement would be to attain more exciting projects to work on.

Tetra Tech AMT / Great group of people / Poor work environment and culture

I have been working at Tetra Tech full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Base on my experience with Tetra Tech AMT, everyone is wonderful to work with. There are many different personalities and egos, but the co-workers are the only positive thing going on for this company. When things aren't going well, everyone is on the same page and expresses there concerns with each other. Senior managers are extremely nice and intelligent and they are not afraid to talk about their concerns or even express their own opinions about the executives.

    Cons

Senior executives needs to have a more open door policy with their subordinates. The culture and environment has become complacent or, what many believe, is now dead...especially after the government shutdown and budget cuts. Every time an employee leaves from overhead, the company decides not to backfill the position. Leaving the rest of overhead forced to collect the scraps!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the people! I believe that enhancing an organizations value through its workforce will lift morale and improve the culture. After the government shutdown, morale has been at an all-time low. Yes, money is tight and there is still uncertainty in the market, but never lose sight in keeping the workforce happy, or else you'll lose them one by one. Right now, people are wanting to leave...and that is not a good sign.

I have been working at Tetra Tech full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

As stated before there is an incredible amount of technical resources within the company. Extremely bright, informed and knowledgeable people.

    Cons

Health care plan leaves a lot to be desired. Lower tier provider used. Poor communication from immediate management to employees. Individual divisions stay individual. Rules established for crossover work are not mutually beneficial to all divisions involved and it is completely dollar driven. The corporate culture is all about the shareholder, not about the people that are actually making the money for the shareholder. If you don't have billable time, your down the road weather you have any influence over your workload or not. Forced to use vacation time to avoid being laid off and keep the appearance of utilization up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people and they will take care of you.

I have been working at Tetra Tech full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The salary is good and the people I work with are wonderful.

    Cons

Poor management in my department. Overworked and under appreciated. The company does not care if you have been there 20 plus years, they will lay you off and hire someone for less money. We aren't expected to have a life other than Tetra Tech. Since this is a consulting firm, we have to be billable and if we aren't we are threatened that we could be "let go" and this causes a lot of stress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider getting help in certain departments that are struggling to keep up with the workload. Certain departments should not be strictly billable.

    Pros

This is a large company so you have access to all the resources and prestige of the company when you are selling work in the industry. Despite being a large company each office and division seems like a small company, because ultimately it is run like a small company. The people are genuinely nice and you can have a flexible schedule.

    Cons

This company doesn't focus on organic growth and does not care about fostering growth for their employees or operating units, they make money by acquisition. The operating units operate completely independently from each other and subsequently it's all about you. Your office, your operating unit, your boss will provide no business plan or support. If you can create your own business leads internally/externally then you will be fine. However expect people to insular and not share work with you when you send work their way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to implement fair and considerate policies for time off with pay and comped time off. Additionally, management needs to create a business plan on how to capture business not make everyone an independent contractor to fend for themselves. The policies and procedures preached by the company are not taught in any manner when new hires are brought on and therefore quality control severely lacks. The culture is quite awful and it is up to the individual to do what they can in spite of managements poor IT and organizational decisions.

I worked at Tetra Tech as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

If you like environmental topics, there is interesting work. There are pretty good opportunities for recent college graduates. There are also opportunities for mentorship.

    Cons

The corporate culture depends on the area you are working in. Because there are so many offices around the country, things can get siloed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are lots of contractors, but at the moment certain parts of the company are having more work than others. I was hired for a specific assignment, but my contract was extended due to my work.
