I worked at Textron full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, leave, liberal travel policies, good employee discount programs.

    Cons

Endless, disruptive layoffs and job redirections without time for healing; corporate restructuring at least every 3-6 months; management rules 100% by emotion and feeling and 0% by business cases and logic; pay has been slashed and benefits have been reduced; bonuses have been eliminated; no business discipline - shiny object and panic rule the method of business; investments are often eliminated in mid-progress due to changing priorities causing chaos, RIFS, and uncertainty. Vice Presidents and Directors get blamed and fired for failing to turn the tide, but crippling decision making comes from on high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update your resumes, because the cycle over the last five years says your days are limited here. Someone new will be brought in with a new vision (which will be the same vision with a new coat of paint) in about six months. Meanwhile, top talent will be lost to better opportunities and RIFS, your budget will be slashed, and you'll be called to the CEO's office to get yelled at so often that you will never accomplish your bold, identical to the old, goals.

I have been working at Textron full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some talented people, some nice people.

    Cons

Mostly idiots. Management is out of the dark ages. Very top heavy management style with no one to do the works (money spent on top managers). Horrible place to work if you're in IT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dump 1/2 your management team and hire talented worker bees. Quit hiring kids out of college and expecting them to preform as veterans. They're not.

Former Employee - Director in Providence, RI

I worked at Textron full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    - used to be international but Kautex still is and you can get some good experience
    - if you were on the Pension, then it was worth sticking around
    - fly in Private Jet here and there was nice and saved time at the Airport

    Cons

-2 to 3 tier employee systems, the Haves, the have nots and worse the folks that have nothing
    -Health Care Plans
    -No Pension
    - 401 to linked to company stock price
    - relocation program
    - "good ole boys club still"
-if you want to learn why "cash" is important this is a good job to learn from

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recommend selling and dividing up to owners that want to invest in people and processes. Textron used to be known as that type of Company when it first started out and about the early 90's lost it way to where alot of the employees will tell you it's just a job.

Current Employee - Mechanic/Inspector in Wichita, KS

I have been working at Textron full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Stable job if you've been with the company for at least 10-15 years

    Cons

Cessna management doesn't care about employee's. One employee over heard a senior management tell a secretary who asking about the mechanics being over worked due to massive overtime, that all of the mechanics were just like any other tool the company had. When they wear out, they'll just replace them. Also, have had only two raises in since 2009 and they didn't keep up with inflation. Hence, the standard of living has been going backwards for going on four years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your biggest asset/resource is the employee's. How they go so goes the company. It would be a great idea to promote within the company instead of bringing someone from outside who doesn't know anything about, in this case, aviation.
