I worked at Thales as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Working for a very big company like this can provide you a good insight of what it means life outside university.

    Cons

Other departments should work for the good of the company not for themselfs. Also they need to improve their R&D department

I worked at Thales (less than a year)

    Pros

A previous manager I have worked with was working there and he asked me to come and work there too

    Cons

Short sighted bullish employees who lack professionalism and who revert to bullying to get anything done

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more about the people you are supposed to be managing - worry more about customer relationships and deal with the bullying that is taking place by the project managers. Yes schedules need to be met, but not by bullying the support engineers into working double shifts. Stakeholders also need to be held accountable for their inadequate management and responses to requests for decisions.

I have been working at Thales full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Paid overtime. Probably the same "working" benefits as any other large size corporation.

    Cons

False promises from management. Hard work is only appreciated behind closed doors through "words" NOT through bonuses or salary increases. A LOT of dead wood in the company! False rumours originating from management!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider protecting your investment (i.e. the many $$ spent on training and developing people) by retaining employees, rather than just replacing them.

    I worked at Thales full-time

    Pros

I worked for Thales at their site in Leicester, I was gutted when they relocated all of their operations to Crawley and closed the Leicester site, in the year since leaving I am yet to find a company with such a great atmosphere, great staff, family feel etc, I miss the xmas raffle, parties, Diwali celebrations. I wonder if Leicester was unique in this way ?
Thales as a company offer good routes for progression, pay rises, appraisals and courses, 27 days holiday plus options to purchase more holiday, discounts with petrol companies and retailers, good pension etc.
    Great company to work for

    Cons

Challenges of my position were with dealing with customers who's work had not been completed on time.

I worked at Thales full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Worklife balance. Not much else.

    Cons

French management rules. If you are not French, sorry..
    For Singapore office:
Been around for 40 years in SGP and still unable to achieve the business volume that other MNCs manage to achieve. They operate more like an SME than an MNC with no autonomy to make any decisions beyond $2M.

Tedious internal process just to get approval to proceed with a bid/course of action. People waste time doing paperwork that is 50pages long just to get "approval". And this must be done 3 times. If there are more than 5 French people in a meeting, they will go on in French and ignore the other non-French speaking colleagues in the meeting.

Below market salaries and bonus compensation due to poor performance in SGP and unmotivated staff with below average skills/qualification trying to project manage large complex projects. Add on a weak management that allows its customers to bully them (eg. not paying them on time or not at all). They keep writing useless letters to customers who ignore them because they know Thales will never act on it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Forget about trying to win new business in Asia if you are unable to network and grow your relationship with your customer. Still to your avionics business.

I worked at Thales full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - lots of roles and opportunities to take up, if you are up for it.
    - excellent work life balance.
    - competitive salaries, even more so if you are a French national.

    Cons

    - every employee is dispensable, unless you are a French national.
    - uneven distribution of workload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - there are many other capable persons other than your own countrymen.

    Pros

Calm people, although it depends on the team you're in.

    Cons

The company seems to keep repeating the same strategic mistakes. They don't seem to understand the concept of 'long-term' anything.

I worked at Thales full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Looks decent, nice building, walking trail for lunchbreak, free parking, christmas lunch, etc.

    Cons

Very old and clumsy software with lots of patches, work-life balance terrible, silos of interest groups cutting other groups' branches, beware of the gossipping old boys (literally!), bonus seeking senior management. Procurement, Quality, T&V, Safety, HR and Customer Care are good. Systems software, Hardware, projects and bids are headaches (middle mgmt is usually good, most directors and above is terrible in general).. Swinging power struggles and missed inner balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a listen to surveys, read between the lines and change terrible performing directors every two years. Measure their personalities prior to promoting / employing them.
Do not be scared of other units around the world. Do not let finance rule over project management. Get rid of the old boys! Support younger and brighter personnel.
