    Pros

Note- My review is coming from someone who works in a non technical department. People for the most part are friendly. The job itself is good. Decent benefits and RDO schedules are offered.

    Cons

Management in non technical areas should be looked at better. Can be overworked with no respect given to employees on the team. Reward for doing a great job is doing even more work (with no planning and heads up given) by management. People are stuck in their ways. Most have been with the corporation for over 20 years and do not want to change. 20 year + employees tend to have negative and limiting attitudes which affect those around them. Management allows these negative attitudes to happen.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people. Hire more younger employees that will keep the corporation with bright and new ideas. Also LISTEN to your people and staff!

    Pros

Type of work is rewarding if you are an engineer/scientist. The customers and importance of the work is great. Working conditions vary based on assignment, but the company just spent several hundred billion on a new building in Chantilly, VA so some offices are better than others. Really low turnaround rate. Not many people leave the company, which can be good for some reasons but bad for others (dead wood)

    Cons

Managers don't know how to manage. They are usually technical people given management responsibilities and still have technical work to do on top of the management work. There is a West Coast vs East Coast vibe and many opportunities afforded to West Coast employees are just not available to the East Coast. The executive management can be micro managers and won't let the managers "manage". However, there are so many levels of approval for such insignificant things no one wants to take any accountability in the first place. They have a union for employees of the technical staff. This union does nothing for employees, has never gone on strike and they have delayed roll out of benefits, and annual increases in the past. The union is not value added. Many think the union is needed because Employee Relations is only concerned with making sure they back the manager rather than help the employee. Most employees don't trust employee relations at all. If you are not in an engineering role, there is little to no room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Hire a CEO from outside the company that will really affect change. Get rid of the union. Start paying attention to the East Coast operations, and stop treating us like we are the annoying cousin. Stop the mandatory years experience minimums and reward based on performance and not "time served". It takes years to get promoted and it seems like people just wait around until the clock strikes the magic number when they can be moved up.

    Pros

Felt like I got a lot of responsibility at an early point in my career. Lots of variety in the work as well.

    Cons

Sometimes politics gets in the way of progress. Hard to get promoted if staying solely on the technical side of things.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the mentoring programs. Continue to be open and flow down information and details about the current political environment affecting the programs and industry.

    Pros

Good place to look around and explore your interests Easy work, not too much responsibility Pay is not great but the work is easy Great place for people that like to attend meetings all day long

    Cons

Senior management (CEO and Group VPs) get highly paid by squeezing the working staff salary increases. Politics reigns supreme in getting ahead Company does not develop any marketable products; not good for an innovative young person It's service to the customer is easily fulfilled in the form of years of man-years (STE); no measure of quality

    Advice to Management

As a nonprofit company that was created to serve the public good and support the govt, the company's executive salaries should be open to the public.

    Pros

Great mission and dedicated top shelf customers. Internal different story. Slow pace, pretty routine work, little oversight from management, not held accountable ... if you like that kind of thing.

    Cons

See above if you are a more energized, leading edge professional and want to stay current in your skills this is probably not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your SMEs, know what you don't know, and take action.
