Pros
Team work environment, growing company, good pay at lower levels
Cons
smaller firm, but name recognition is growing
Pros
work / live balance
challenging and interesting work
collegial environment
small firm feel with big firm intellectual property and ambition
Cons
ambiguous career progression
poor benefits plan
lack of formal review process
Advice to Senior Management
AGI is a great place to work
Pros
great culture with hard working people that know a lot about consulting in the sales space
Cons
it's a small company with small company challenges
Advice to Senior Management
pay more to staff but hold a much higher standard for promotion within the company
Pros
The work is very interesting. I have gotten a lot of exposure to key client issues and key client management. I also have a higher level of responsibility than I would elsewhere at my level.
Cons
Sometimes it is very apparent that AGI is a small company. The benefits are okay, the hours are sometimes very long, and you have to do most of your learning on your own.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue striving to formalize people development at AGI. I hope that eventually the newcomers will be brought up to speed evenly and consistently.
Pros
Fun young co-workers, growing company, major clients list, managers are pretty nice, responsible and will get their hands dirty and do the work; diversity of projects is increasing with more strategic work.
Cons
Personality driven due to size of company and offices. Top management is not interested in growing the company into the 21st century, and pays lip service to growing it into something really 'bigger and better' - meaning AGI can never really grow beyond what it is now.
Advice to Senior Management
If top leadership really wants to drive the company to be better than just a second-rate consulting company, lead it, position it and invest in your people.
Pros
Pay, work-life balance, interest in learning the content
Cons
Career advancement, quality of coaching and mentorship, poor performance review process that is not timely or actionable
Advice to Senior Management
Clarify career advancement opportunities and possible timeline, use STAR approach to performance management so that it is clear how management will support the person's success and goals to reaching the next level
Pros
The best reasons to work for the Alexander Group include:
- Working with smart, motivated colleagues and access to a broad base of talent to learn from
- The ability to engage in a fast-paced work environment
- Early opportunity to take active roles in client meetings
- Challenging and rewarding projects with a wide variety of clients spanning multiple industries
- Decent benefits
Cons
- The culture between the different regional offices varies widely.
- Some offices more than others make better efforts at establishing a collaborative atmosphere
- Pay levels are around industry averages - however I've been told they're not scaled by location and cost of living differences
Advice to Senior Management
- More directional advice on the state of the company and internal decisions.
