I have been working at The Blackstone Group part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

work with really intelligent and hardworking people with other major investment firm background. people are really trying to make this place more pleasant to work at this very fast paced and sometimes stressful environment which is really amazing.

    Cons

hours could sometimes run really long, but is the nature of this industry. very fast-paced and challenging work. if you don't know what you are doing. you could get frustrated easily.

Very uptight, backstabbing environment with miserable people

I worked at The Blackstone Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -The prestige of the name
    - The very high pay
    - Fun corporate events (parties, happy hours, tickets to shows, company sports teams, volunteer field trips, the list goes on…)
    - Lots of free food
    - Some decent people in a sea of pessimistic backstabbers
    - nice people in senior management (although they are completely oblivious to how the people under them are being treated)

    Cons

    - extremely long hours. I worked from about 8:30am to 12am or 1am every week day, plus at least 10 hours on the weekends (all of these hours are IN THE OFFICE, not remote)

    - lots of politics and backstabbing in order to move up. vice presidents and associates are very mean to analysts. the attitude here is basically, "we can do whatever we want to you because you wouldn't dare to leave such a prestigious company." when i was ready to leave, i didn't even use references from this place because i was afraid they would say negative things on purpose just to hold me back. it's like crabs in a barrel, no one thinks you deserve anything if they aren't getting it themselves, even if you work hard and deserve it

    - this place is racist as well, unfortunately. i've seen asian interns treated poorly and forced to work for hours on end, not even being allowed to step outside to get lunch or dinner (others had to get their meals for them). meanwhile, the white interns come and go as they please, are invited to company social events, and are given lots of networking connections to help them find full time offers. the one black intern they had was completely and blatantly ignored. i honestly couldn't believe that in 2014 a company was allowed to treat people like this.

this place has very poor company values overall. the morale here is very low.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

blackstone is a very prestigious place, but at the end of the day, that doesn't mean anything if you are miserable every single day that you are there. please review your policies with your staff regarding racism and sexual harassment. start taking more of an interest in training your staff through professional development programs.
