Once you're hired you're stuck in that position with no opportunity for growth.

I have been working at The CBORD Group

    Pros

CBORD has a good benefits package. When you're hired you're giving 3 weeks of vacation. After 5 years it is bumped for 4 weeks and after 10 years it's up to 5 weeks. You have 12 sick days with 3 that can be used as personal days. This benefits package in regards to vacation/time-off is pretty good.

    Cons

There's very little opportunity for growth within CBORD. Salaries are fairly low when you're hired and promotions/raises are very rarely given out. As of the end of 2010 the majority of the employees haven't received raises in about 3 years. There's very little recognition on a "job well done". Overall, management and senior management seem to care little about motivation.

The rest of the benefits package isn't so great. Healthcare costs aren't covered well by CBORD. The HR department is bad at negotiating healthcare agreements with insurance companies. This results in an almost yearly change in plans which usually results in your out of pocket cost going up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to focus more on motivating their employees. It's understandable that budgets have been tight over the past few years, but small gestures are easy, cheap, and impactful. Opportunities for growth should be provided. The company tenor is such that a jolt of inspiration and vigor would be beneficial. Unfortunately no attempt has been made.

I have been working at The CBORD Group

    Pros

Generally, really like and enjoy the people I work with.

Job security, it is nice to know you have a job and it likely to be there tomorrow. Don't know how you can get fired, management seems completely unable to deal with a few extremely poor performing employees.

If you are unable to do your current job, you just get shuffled around the company while other employees pickup the slack with the same pay and lack of raises.

    Cons

Pay. Three years with no raise. Work environment is very stressful, along with stress of trying to pay bills at home. Probably bringing home less money then when I started.

Apparently little value in human resources. A general feeling that you need Cbord more than Cbord needs you, and you are treated so.

Not hiring new employees, trying extremely hard not to fill vacant positions. Backbone employees continuously overworked, underpaid, with increasing responsibilities. Human resources are stretched too thin. Software products rushed out the door at very low quantity and not nearly finished in terms of 1st general release standards. If you are a customer, you are expected to Qa the products, or run the risk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The level of apathy toward human resources and quality produces will affect the bottom line. Employee moral is generally very low.

    Pros

You will have a flexible work schedule. Independent consulting service without the overhead and client search. Great product with outstanding support.

    Cons

You will travel 80 to 90 percent of the time. Since the position is 30% commission, your vacation time is like a cut in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review implementation structure to standardize projects and project phases to a more standard approach developed by the Project Management team.

    Pros

There is the potential for frequent work-related travel.

    Cons

60+ hour workweeks are the rule rather than the exception; Extremely low compensation; Zero growth potential; Turnover rate is less than six months; Extreme lack of resources, both human and information; Products often released before support is made aware, without documentation to clients or internal support.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at the turnover rate and figure out why people leave so often. While the IT sector does have a higher than average turnover rate, CBORD's is much higher still. Treating employees as dispensable reflects poorly on your business model, both to clients and employees.

    Pros

    Great coworkers and great customers.

    Cons

Very toxic environment. The attitude conveyed by management is that ALL employees are replaceable and disposable. Employees have extremely low morale - all of my coworkers are actively seeking other employment. Management is not interested in hearing the opinions of their employees. General attitude of management is "shut up and row". Pay and benefits are atrocious - well under industry standards. Used to be an awesome company - has taken a drastic nosedive in past 5-6 years. Losing a lot of valuable personnel, including a number of long-term employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you value and appreciate your employees, they will know it and work harder for you. Listen to them - they are the closest "ear" to your customers and often have really great ideas and suggestions.

I have been working at The CBORD Group

    Pros

The customers are really great. The company does have interesting and innovative products, would love to be proud of them. If you are in sales, this is a great company to look at.

    Cons

The pay is beyond terrible and the "raises" are minimal (2%) to non-existent (i.e., YEARS). Terrible insurance plan, high premium and high out of pocket. I don't know how someone could afford a family plan with the ridiculous pay rates. The management in this company is insane. Waaaaaay too many "managers." "Teams" of 1 to 4 people have a manager who winds up micro managing and throwing their "team" under the bus to save themselves (way to be!). Forget voicing an opinion, your point is moot unless you are in Sales or Upper Management. CBORD also seems to have a no-fire policy. It doesn't matter if you are completely incompetent (which is about half of the staff), or go around swearing at your coworkers you will have job security here. Turnover rate is terrible, any new hire with half a brain is finds new employment within 6 months. Also seeing lots of long term employees throw in the towel. I would only recommend this company to masochists who enjoying being surrounded by negative energy and angry coworkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give out raises (reasonable one). Hire talented people that actually seen a computer before. Do something to boost the moral of this company so all the "grunt' workers don't feel like they are walking the green mile to work everyday.

The people are great and the customers are great. The atmosphere is mostly happy and you often form lifelong friendships.

    Pros

Vacation & PTO package is very good. Stable company.

    Cons

Insurance is very expensive and not very good. For a company this size, HR should be able to negotiate a better package. Toxic environment. Employees feel disposable. The worker bees rarely get raises - however, that doesn't seem to be the case for managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Morale is very low and getting lower. Employee performance is higher when they feel valued and appreciated.
