    Pros

The salary wasn't bad for a kid just out of a Social Work program. It was a big company and provided reimbursement for travel expenses.

    Cons

They did not prepare you in any way for working in the field. You are going into the projects and bad areas of the city, and they never went over basic safety skills or what to do if you were in trouble. They were reactive in this instead of proactive

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees. Be more proactive in what you do. Explain all aspects of what is expected and required.

    Pros

Location-easy commute, decent ability to get reimbursed, agency cars.

    Cons

This agency claims they conduct business in a transparent way. Sure they do, if you can prove the right to join their club. When you're in, you're golden. When you are out, they don't stop until they have enough to fire you. This agency fights every unemployment claim so even if you win, you won't get paid for at least two months. Your supervisor will say they have your back, only to talk negatively about you to your own team. I have worked in agencies where people lied and blamed but this one takes the cake. The people here are sharks.

    Advice to Management

Try to focus on every color under the rainbow, you get me?

    Pros

It is very difficult to find a pro in this job. I would say the relationships you can build with certain kids is very nice at times. Also, the opportunity to work overtime is great when you need some extra money.

    Cons

Lack of communication between Supervisors and staff members, starting from the first day of training. This was a clear sign that something was wrong from the very beginning. Supervisors will not answer their phones when you need them, but when you see them on campus they are glued to it. Lack structure in cottages, and it is evident that this problem stems from management and trickles down. There is no teamwork in the cottages. It is very disappointing and difficult to work here because there is no support. Long hours, to the point that this becomes your life. I understand why there is a high turn over rate here and it because the lack of support.

    Advice to Management

Structure begins with you guys implementing it and following through. Spend two weeks in a cottage to see how difficult it is for staff and then try to come u with solutions. Ask staff what they think can be done to resolve the issues they encounter everyday with the kids. You guys can learn a lot from staff if you ask and take their ideas. There is a lack of communication and it is causing staff to give up.

    Pros

Helping Children and Families, Company Vehicles

    Cons

Lack of consistency and support from management, poor supervision from unqualified "supervisors", sketchy and unprofessional display of unethical instruction from upper-management, did not feel safe in the work place due to supervisors and managers creating an unstable environment, poorly run HR department

    Advice to Management

CV will always have a high employee turn-over rate until some of these major foundation issues are fixed. CV needs some major restructuring, starting from the top down. I only wish I read the negative reviews before accepting employment. Have your managers and supervisors treat employees with respect and give appropriate/ETHICAL support.

    Pros

If you're fortunate to have good co-workers, that makes all the difference in your shift.

    Cons

The politics completely hide the fact that these are human beings. They treat these kids like they only matter because of the pay day.

    Advice to Management

You should make yourselves privy to what's happening in these cottages, not via e-mail though.

    Pros

Facility was clean and comfortable. Benefits were decent. Large convenient parking lot.

    Cons

Everyone was generally miserable. A most unhappy place. I once heard the Executive Director, when faced with a problem, respond "Who can we blame for this?"
