I worked at The Coastal Companies full-time for more than 5 years
Pros – The Coastal Companies is an organization that treats employees like family. It was an uplifting, positive work environment where I made lifelong friendships and professional connections. They respect their employees and value family time and work/life balance. They are willing to pay decent salaries and provide attractive benefits.
Cons – The industry took a hit during the economic downturn and had to lay off may employees.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to value your dedicated employees and make whatever decisions necessary to deliver on promises to your customers.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Pros – There were some nice people working there. Pay was on par for the area. Depending on your department could be a cool place to work.
Cons – Many things were wrong (workload, respect), but they all boil down to senior management, it's is awful. I honestly believe they have no idea what they are doing. In the early 2000's people were throwing their money at real estate, so people in high places got credit for it. Now that they are actually having to work, the incompitence of senior management is showing.
None of the rules of delegation are followed, so you could have an idiot making life threating decisions completely out of their area of expertise at any moment. It is hard on employees to prevent these mistakes on a daily basis, much of the workload is preventing complete morons from shooting themselves in the foot, which gets old after a while.
Advice to Senior Management – 1. Micro-management is bad for everyone, you included. Let the people you pay good money for do their jobs, they are better than you at it. Heres a quick test: Do you have a degree in that field? Then ask someone who does.
2. Take a honest look at yourselves, shed the people who are not qualified to hold a senior management position. Do not take into consideration the success of the past real estate bubble when analyzing personnel. One upper management salary could hire 4 highly qualified people who actually produce results.
3. This isnt the 50's. Loosen up.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Pros – They pay the most in the South Eastern NC.
Cons – Owner of the company is a micro-manager. Hires incompetent managers. Employees find it hard to do their job because of the micro-managing culture perpetuated with the senior management. Very, very high employee turn over rates. Approval processes are comparable to government red tape: difficult, frustrating, hard. Promotions are based on favoritism. Senior management does not know how to manage as they have had to lay off people instead of freezing the hiring process, as most well-managed companies do.
Advice to Senior Management – Let the employees they hired do the jobs their positions are called to do.
