I worked at The Dump part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good rapport with co-workers despite the competitive nature of the business

    Cons

The quality of the merchandise was inconsistent. Also, advertised merchandise often did not arrive in time for the promotions or was in short supply.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the smaller sales as well as the upsell sales---Sometimes , for example, a college student only wants (or can only afford) the computer desk he/she came in for

    Pros

A good job to have while you are in school. You work weekends and holidays which leaves most of the week available for classes.

    Cons

There was so much turnover in the customer service department that I once manned the entire call centre for hours at a time because we didn't have enough representatives. The management of the call centre did not care at all about its employees but instead would simply fire and replace them. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a long term career.

I worked at The Dump full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I worked in the business office with about 5 others. My trainers, managers, and coworkers were great to be around. Everyone that I can recall working with, from the delivery drivers to sales associates, were happy. When I was hired the store was just opening and the smooth opening was impressive. The store manager was personable and sincere, which I was not expecting in this situation.

    Cons

I worked in the business office, but even then the hours weren’t the traditional 9-5. I had to work long shifts almost every weekend, but the shifts during the week were more traditional.

Pretty Much a Great Place to Work

I have been working at The Dump part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you can avoid the Drama of an open sales floor, it is a great place to work. Fun associates to work with with a wide variety of backgrounds. Very easy to make over 55k a year working part time.

85% of the time only work 3 days a week (Forget having a life November 15th-January 1st but those checks are ginormous)

    Cons

Miss the hard working Management of a year ago but if you stay focused on your job for 28 hours over 3 days a week and ignore the petty drama of low performing associates, there really is no reason that you shouldn't be able to make over 55k working part time.

Only 2 real benefits that other companies offer:
2 weeks vacation after a year (based on sales per hour and are normally huge checks. I seriously made more money on vacation-11 days off in a row than I did during most of the year...This could also be listed under Pros)
401k-With a paltry 25% match up to 5% not fully vested until after your 6th year (better than nothing I guess)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay positive and show more often that you care about the staff. All in all a great and easy place to work.

I worked at The Dump part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

You can work another job and use this as a fill if you don't mind working every weekend and holiday

    Cons

Management leaves a lot to be desired in Turnersville store. Lots of politics and hidden agendas as reported by someone else that worked there. They perpetuate racial issues and other large HR concern issues while yet having each new employee watch a film describing harassment. They would rather fire people or make them want to quit, that want to discuss this problem rather than fix it. I saw a lot of that. They will probably wind up in court someday defending this store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get involved with what is going on there-manage your management!

I have been working at The Dump

    Pros

Schedule could be good if you don't mind working weekends. You will work from open to close Friday-Sunday and holidays-but you do get rest of week off-but you will need it

    Cons

Poor management, terrible morale, -kind of hostile among the commissioned sales people. There are no benefits to speak of. Holidays and special sales you work an additional 12 hour days. No work-no pay. They don't mind firing you on a whim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a class on management and learn some people skills. Just staying with a company for a long time doesn't necessarily make you good management material-could just mean you don't feel like looking for another job. Treat people the way you would like to be treated with some mutual respect. If you continue to break the rules-it will be tough to enforce the ones you choose to select to enforce. Lots of hidden agendas at this store. Beware.
