no respect for employees, awful company culture

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThere used to be opportunities to make good bonuses, but not anymore.

ConsPrices are incredibly high, higher even than department stores. Pay is barely over minmum wage, bonuses is almost impossible. Not much training before you are expected meet high sales quotas on overpriced knock-off perfumes, and those stupid travelos. They won't promote anyone that is smart or intelligent. Upper management expects to control your life outside of work as well as at work.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop creating a culture of fear and distrust. Hire and promote intelligent people and have a good training schedule. Don't be intimidated by employees that are smarter than you are. That's a good thing. Intelligent employees are the future of the business.

Sell knock offs or get fired

    Anonymous (Former Employee)

ProsIf you suck up enough, you'll get promoted!

ConsForced to sell over priced knock offs as their "premier" brands.
    Forced to sell perfume atomizers.
High prices (more than dept stores).
Terrible upper management, terrible direct management terrible promotions.
Commission, known as spiffs, are entirely based on how many knock offs you sell.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe proactive, set reasonable goals and be honest with the staff.

    They will milk you dry.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe work itself is not very difficult.

ConsThere is no such thing as seniority. Growth opportunities depends on who likes you.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring from outside and realize what a great pool of candidates you have right under your nose.

As my first retail job, I have had a great experience with TFO.

Sales Associate (Current Employee) Grove City, PA

ProsVery well organized company and very good at adapting to change.

ConsThe holiday season can be rough, but this would apply to any position in retail during the same time.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep an eye on competitors in the same area.

    Horrible

    Store Manager (Former Employee)

Prosthere is none that I can think of.

ConsThere is too many to list from the high prices to be forced to sell those travelos to being written up if you don't sell enough. You have old drugstore perfume that you are expected to sell higher then even Walmart does. Who wants Charlie at 14.95 when you can buy it for 5.99 at Walmart. Upper management is quick to point fingers but offers no solutions, other than to demand that you fire the whole staff or you will go next.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your managers and associates they are making the money or trying to make the money for you, get rid of the bullies no one likes a bully!

    Great opportunities to make commissions.

    Supervisor (Former Employee)

Pros1) Granted commissions and incentives for making sales- totally worked!
    2) Decent discount on already discounted colognes and perfumes
    3) Working with customers here was actually really great.
    4) Adequate hours for staff
    5) Satisfied with hourly rate as a part-time employee

ConsArea/District/Regional managers are very slow to eliminate Store Managers that aren't performing as they should be.

This company was not for me

Store Manager (Former Employee) McLean, VA

ProsIts easy once you get the hang of their paperwork.

ConsLong hours 6 day work week during the holidays. You spend alot of times by yourself. You are required to work every weekend and if you don't make the sales they start pointing the fingers and suggest its all your fault. They expect you to sell drugstore perfume at inflated prices. They expect you to hound former customers to repurchase to the point they scream at you to please stop hassling me.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet a grip and offer free gifts to good customers and dont except your staff to repeatedly call old customers and stop pushing inflated drugstore perfume carry new perfume in every store!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
