    It's a job, not a career...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Roanoke, VA

Pros20% discount - Discount sometimes higher throughout the year (especially around end of year holidays); Nice co-workers; Good product

ConsPassive/Aggressive management style; Salary barely above "living wage"; Low raises; No accountability; Horribly understaffed; Actual job duties are often different from what is listed on website; So much multitasking required to the point of not being able to finish any one task completely and/or even get to core duties; Poor scheduling tactics; No Human Resources representation; Equipment often breaks and not readily repaired; Focus on profit only

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should be thankful that there is no direct competition in the immediate area...

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Land of the lost

Assistant Front End Manager (Former Employee) Roanoke, VA

ProsTwenty percent discount, some weeks they give a larger discount. Due to rapid turn over of staff there are plenty of opportunities for advancement. Some really good food.

ConsCorporate is like a Hydra, lots of heads that all want to give orders with out talking to each other. Busy work is sent out to justify jobs at corporate, things such as $0.01 price changes. Massive amounts of errors in basic things such as prices, misspelling on signs such as gluten spelled as gulten. High turn over of co-workers. Lack of training causes most new hires to quit in the first week.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove your training of new employees. Improve your communication at head quarters so you present a united front (corrections and changes to directives from corporate occur within days of a new directive taking effect) Maybe consider having support staff work nights and weekends like the stores they support (it is sad that the California stores can't get help after 2pm). Consider hiring a proof reader for signage, it's embarrassing having signs come from head quarters with misspellings on them (it happened every month REALLY!!!!)

TFM as a whole does not value their employees!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Roanoke, VA

    ProsNice environment for working.
    Somewhat flexible hours.
20% discount for employees on purchases as a benefit.
    Fairly decent benefits package.

ConsUpper management is incompetent at best. Leadership skills are lacking including treating employees with respect and team player skills. Leadership is clueless as to what is going on in the departments. Departements are understaffed and some employees are working without time off. One staff memeber here at the Roanoke,VA store has worked over 65 days straight w/o a day off. Store management drag their feet at replacing lost empoyees and fail to reward long term employees who are hard workers. They allow the same staff to come in late (30 to 60 minutes late) for their shifts w/o reprecussions. Long term employees have no incentive for continuing in their positions due to failure to give raises. They say you are capped off after only 1 year in your position!

Advice to Senior ManagementValue your employees and reward them for a job well done! Sales are up in our Roanoke store year after year and yet the employees see no reward or increase in pay or staffing. It is no wonder their is such a high turn around in staff here!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
