Pros
the employee discount is the best and sometimes only pro
Cons
Gap card is the number one priority. If you don't obtain a certain number of applicants, your hours are cut. If you do, you are only offered a simple thank you and no further appreciation. No upward mobility unless you somehow fall under the manager's wing and/or get Gap-cards VERY consistently. Long hours, including overnight shifts. Not compensated properly for the amount of time I have been loyal to the company. (miniumum wage after 5 years?)
Advice to Senior Management
Be more consistent with hours regardless of Gap-card goals. I know your job is depending upon it, but you must think of the people you are responsible for and how they are making an income.
Pros
-flexible hours for students
-friendly co-workers for the most part
-inclusive enivronment
Cons
-poorly kept stores
-rude customers
-lazy managers
Advice to Senior Management
-have more respect for associates
-put forth more of an effort rather than leaving all the work to associates
Pros
The company wants its people to enjoy working there, and is willing to work with its employees to make sure they have what they need to be successful.
Cons
Working with the employees ends with compensation. GAP is headquartered on the Embarcadero in San Francisco, yet their compensation packages would only look good if they were headquartered in a suburb, or somewhere outside of the Bay Area.
Advice to Senior Management
The best advice I could give to GAP? Move the company. Move it out of San Francisco, preferably our of the State of California. Choose a State where the regulatory environment is not so openly hostile to business. A move like that would immediately increase the job satisfaction of the employees, as NOT working in an area as expensive as San Francisco would mean current compensation packages would be satisfactory. Move the company, and you could save an outrageous amount of money on the cost of doing business. Leave San Francisco.
Pros
Discount, benefit package, and the company doesnt promote the "pushy salesman" strategy.
Cons
No communication between management. Too much babying & complaining from employees w/ tenure. AM's are ignorant except 1. No structure. Workload to heavy for hours given.
Advice to Senior Management
Tenure means nothing if you don't do your job well. Keeping those employees on staff only hurts the store
Pros
Discounts for the brand and other associated companies
Cons
Pay for the job is a bit low
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your reports
Pros
Most of the people who work for the company are great... Very energetic, willing to help, and really enjoy working with customers.
Cons
They are very unclear as to the management structure, and how they want to promote. There are a lot of inconsistencies as to accountability of the management and sales associates. I used to LOVE working at Gap... but now, it's just "OK"
Advice to Senior Management
Find someone that knows how to hold people accountable for their actions.
Pros
good work week
freindly people that like to make you laugh but sometimes the managers can be challanging esoecially during holiodays
Cons
sometimes the work is not that interesting and it can be difficult to get a promotion due to managers who stay there forever
Advice to Senior Management
please take more time to train your straff and ask them what imporvements can be made for the everyday workweek
Pros
if your attempting to make some extra cash and add to your wardrobe, this is a great way to go.
Cons
No room for advancement. It's not realistic to take an associate position and think it's going to turn into anything other than that, no matter how hard you try to prove yourself.
Advice to Senior Management
To inspire staff that is on the floor and is your first line that interacts with the customer, let advancement and greater pay, not just change in title, be something tangible, not just a carrot that's dangled in from of you and never achieved.
Pros
ROWE - Work from home, arrive at 10am, leave at 2pm, WHATEVER you need. Just get job done, no slacking.
Cons
More like a job than a career. Leadership scrambles a lot.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep ROWE, get better healthcare, tell recruiters to treat internal applicants better. Make better product by asking employees what they like and dont like, not just merchants.
Pros
-great discount (50%)
-easy/simple
-can be fun
Cons
-gap cards, you harass customers to get them to sign up for a credit card yet receive no incentives
