I worked at The Gap full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great work-life balance, flexible hours, good benefits.

    Cons

Hard to move up and grow professionally. Gap kept hiring more VPs/Directors/etc instead of promoting from within, creating more and more layers of approvals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees, stop hiring advertising agencies, and have faith in your product/the brand.

    Pros

The friendliest work environment possible. Great leadership, perfect work-life balance, and lots of growth opportunities.

    Cons

I truthfully cannot find any cons about working for this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I do not have any advice, because my experience with this company was phenomenal.

I worked at The Gap part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The experience is more than amazing. There is a great operating system as well as training value that will be hard to find elsewhere. Usually once you work here, most companies are convinced you have the training needed. As a manager, there are quarterly incentives and if you work for factory store, incentives are given as an entire store. Pretty much, if you know what you want to grow in a retail career, this is the place to start.

    Cons

The pay is average and with such great retail competition, hours may be cut as well. There is pettiness as in any job but you have to determine what you want beforehand and if you're willing to play the game. Positions in management tend to take their workload home. It can become exhausting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep communication open with employees. If you have goals, share them with us so we can support you. Create hands on training by finding out your employees goals. If a new manager wants to be a District manager or even work in corporate as designer, what gateway is there to achieve that?
