I have been working at The Gap

    Pros

If you are college or high school student, then:
-Coworkers are around your age, or even people you recognize from class
-Managers are younger too, which makes them more approachable
-Short shifts (works for college schedule)
    -Employee discount

    Cons

If you are not a college or high school student, then:
-Young employees who show their age (dependent on location of store)
-Short shifts (just 15 minutes short of having to give you a break), which add up to very few hours for the week (only managers are full time)
    General problems:
    -Archaic computer systems
-Rapidly changing sales that oftentimes don't function with the computer (their is no way that we should have to use a calculator to hand calculate and override prices because the systems cannot compute all of the discounts that headquarters made)
-Far too much emphasis on trying to get customers signed up for the Gap credit card (modern shoppers are not so gullible that they will just get one because they can save am extra 20 percent; even most of the employees don't have the card); the major problem is that we are judged as employees by our ability, or lack thereof, to get people to sign up for the card
-I don't really see any upwards mobility, unless you want to leave the store to get a manager position somewhere else

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should upgrade the computer systems and your sale strategies. Having so many sales that the computers can't compute them and having a seemingly continous store wide discount cheapens the brand's appearance to consumers. You corporate executives should give more autonomy to the managers of the store, especially very highly rated ones like mine.

I worked at The Gap part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The people I worked with at the Gap made my experience enjoyable. It wasn't always easy getting to work at 5 am to stock the shelves, but we made the best of it.

    Cons

It would be a nice gesture for the Gap to offer benefits to more of their hourly employees who are putting in nearly forty hours of work per week.

I worked at The Gap part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Brand is well known and the stores are popular. They provide some training initially. The work consists mainly of restocking the shelves, sorting the displays, and helping the customers.

    Cons

The company discount is only on full-price purchases. They need to provide more season to season style training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time creating brand loyalty amongst your employees!
